Explosions at Boston Marathon

This is a thread about the bombing, and not one about Muslim and Christian extremism. I don't think we should mix the two subjects and if that subject is to be discussed it should be over in the cave. This is just a suggestion because I don't really think it is a good idea here to let that issue in, since we are really concerned here with what happened, why, and concern about the victims. That would be going into a totally different subject which may not even be at all relevant. I just suggest this in a friendly way.

I never said that those who carried out the 9/11 attacks represented all of Islam. Don't misconstrue my words or associate me with that.

Edit: Didn't even mention 9/11 or Islam at all actually.

I wasn't trying to accuse of anything. I'm just trying to say that as Christians, its easy for us to just say that groups like the Westboro Baptist aren't real Christians. The truth is most religions have radical elements. Thats just the way it is.

Police tonight are serving a search warrant at a residence in Revere, MA that is related to the bombings.

Just terrible. I hope that whoever did this gets full justice. The way people cope with **** in this world amazes me. "I'm angry/sad/whatever..let me make some bombs and kill/hurt a bunch of innocent people!"

I was thinking about the crime investigation piece last night. Think of all the evidence they'll process. Even at the hospital, I'm sure shrapnel and such would be logged based on who it came from, where they were standing, etc.

Sad stuff. I watched the presser last night from the doctor. I thought he did a good job. As te press hounded him, he basically said, "It's been a busy day, but this is my job."

There is an incredible amount to process, the unexploded bombs, all of the shrapnel, any video taken in that area all day, hundreds of witnesses, and 100+ injured. It's a huge amount of data to go through but hopefully in there somewhere is enough evidence to figure out who did this.

They had bomb sniffing dogs at an open course race where 1,000s of people were packed together and people are wondering why? Seriously? And from all accounts, the bomber(s) dropped them into trashcans a few minutes before the explosions so obviously the dogs wouldn't have had time to find them.

I find the conspiracy theorists pathetic. Do you have nothing better to do? Just like the "Man on the roof" conspiracies going all over twitter and the internet:

There are hundreds of logical explanations why a man would be on the roof of a building yet people are freaking out that this is the bomber!

That's Bigfoot!

Heard someone on the train home today say it is "very suspicious" that there was so much video footage instantly available and that this points to some sort of government initiated conspiracy...he was dead serious...serious that it was odd that the most famous race in the world had its finish line captured on video. In some way listening to him made me feel even more hopeless than the tragedy itself.

I guarantee that's not the dumbest thing you've ever overheard on a Metra train.

Did anyone else watch the special report on NBC? Did you feel like the reporters were just begging for one of the doctors to say the line "the injuries were like a warzone?"

I was watching a press conference with a surgeon from one of the area hospitals who had operated on several of the victims. One of the interviewers asked something to the effect of "Did you find that you were better prepared to deal with this particular situation because all the doctors at this hospital were trained by Israeli special forces?" The doctor just looked at him and said, "I was not trained by Israeli special forces." I have no idea who asked the question, but between him and the guy who kept shouting "false flag" in the police press conference, I have no idea how these officials restrain themselves and keep from calling out people as ****-ing idiots.

I saw that and loved his professionalism. They were just looking for SOMETHING to spin. I also liked that he was matter of fact. The hospital has a crisis response protocol, they initiated it, and the staff did their jobs as expected.

Yeah, the sad thing about things like this is within minutes a lot of folks go from shock/sympathy to forming opinions or trying to connect it to something they are passionate about.

I can just hear this guy you are talking about...and today at work just being the calm voice of reason to his coworkers, who then do the "coo-coo" motion to their head when he's not looking.

One last thing....I get frustrated when on Facebook a lot. I think, 20 years ago, people just talked with friends/coworkers, they didn't feel they needed to have a "take" on things.

Anyway, my pet peeve is when people attach themselves to tragedy. I know some do it to "cope," but I had one friend post, "As a Patriots fan and someone who does 5k and 10k races..." and another who'd changed their profile picture to their 2001 Chicago Marathon medal with "As a fellow marathoner, I can't imagine having the race taken way from me so brutally."

REALLY!?!?!?

It did get me thinking though, think of someone who ran the race and finished maybe 45 minutes before that...in their cab on the way to their hotel and posting something like, "Overall good race, except I have a KILLER blister" and how much of *** they'd feel like later in the day.

It sickens me how people try to make a tragedy their own when it has nothing to do with them, like they're just seeking drama. There's sympathy, there's empathy, and then there's being a vulture.

Parents, help me with this. I don't have kids but have young nieces and nephews. I am watching several news programs and they keep making a big deal about how tragic this is to tell their children. I just don't understand this. It's like the media is underestimating the common sense and/or intelligence of our children. For instance, a female reporter on Good Morning America keeps talking about how she and her daughter cried for hours as she was telling her about yesterday. Maybe I'm wrong but this drives me nuts.
