Explosions at Boston Marathon

I'm sure i'll be pegged as the conspiratorial one of the bunch now, but stumbled upon this while looking at some news coverage. Boston Marathon explosion: University of Mobile coach offers first-hand reports from scene | al.com

"At the starting line this morning, they had bomb sniffing dogs and the bomb squad out there," he said. "They kept announcing to runners not to be alarmed, that they were running a training exercise."
He added, "I've run a lot of races like this one, but I never saw bomb dogs at the starting line of any running event. It led me to believe that something like (a bomb detonation) might have happened."

Does this mean that the Boston PD or some law enforcement had some sort of information prior to the attacks and were trying to play it off as a training exercise?

If this ends up being an attack by a terrorist organization, it would make me feel a lot better that there was some intelligence into the events and we were not completely blindsided again.

Its easy to write off a group like the Westboro Baptists and not being real Christians and try to feel good about that not being radical Christians. The same case can be made for the terrorists on 9/11. They said they what the did was because of Islam, but the truth is they distorted Islam to serve their own purposes and they were not what a majority of Muslims believe to be is a real Muslim.

I never said that those who carried out the 9/11 attacks represented all of Islam. Don't misconstrue my words or associate me with that.

Edit: Didn't even mention 9/11 or Islam at all actually.

I don't think those dogs need a training exercise without knowing if there is something for them to smell. Maybe their handlers wanted them to be in the commotion...I don't know. My guess is this story is misreported, that bomb sniffing dogs are common at the start of the race and they misreported that the cops were telling people it was simply a training, or they did have some idea there could be something going on.

I'm not taking one side or another, but just offering a reason for the "training excercise" statement from Boston PD. I think that would be an ideal training situation for a canine unit. The officers could easily hide objects coated with chemicals common to most explosives along the busy sections. The dogs would have to deal with a lot of interference in the form of noise, strange people going about their business, and lots of different smells. If the dog could find the fake "bomb" in that environment then the Boston PD knows they can trust that dog to perform in all environments.

Not sure if what I read was true, but I'd heard that the Boston PD happened to be a training exercise for bomb situations today, and then the actual things just happened.

Heard someone on the train home today say it is "very suspicious" that there was so much video footage instantly available and that this points to some sort of government initiated conspiracy...he was dead serious...serious that it was odd that the most famous race in the world had its finish line captured on video. In some way listening to him made me feel even more hopeless than the tragedy itself.

I didn't think he was. You said you didn't consider West Buro christian. When asked if you would say the same thing against Muslims you responded "que?", and he explained what he meant. Maybe I read it different than you, but I didn't consider it accusatory.

To compare extreme Christianity to extremist Muslims is the dumbest thing ever. For every 1 Christian extremist, there are 200,000 of the other. Good gawd. It's like claiming a Chihuahua and Pit Bull are both equally ferocious canines

I'm so not looking forward to work tomorrow. Co-worker that sits next to me is the most tin foiled hat person I have ever met. He is so over the top that we have actually had to report him to HR because he made us feel uncomfortable about the Colorado movie theater shootings. I can't wait to hear him explain to me how the government was involved in this event.

If so, I apologize. Hard to interpret everything through a message board.

:skeptical: *******. Because news organizations and live feeds covering a famous sporting event, and friends/family recording their loved ones crossing the line clearly screams conspiracy.

Here.

I can entertain a little of that stuff as long as there's some logic behind it...but this guy was WORKED UP that there was video footage of the Boston Marathon finish line. I saw him get on at the lot of a tech company too so good chance he's holding down a decent job somehow in spite of being a complete idiot. It's a coping mechanism of some sort I guess.

Here's a frightening video of the explosion, headphone users beware.
