This is absolutely an all or nothing hire. If he comes in an succeeds, he will stay for life and build a dynasty. If he comes in and loses, then JP gets to fire one of the most loved Clones of all time, and JP leaves with him. Cyclone nation totally implodes.

The lack of coaching experience scares the crap out of me, but I guess I'm not the one with my balls on the line here. It does seem to be an odd choice if the quotes from Thompson were true. It sounded like we had some very experienced, successful coaches interested.

Well, here's to a return of the magic! Please let this work out, I miss Cyclone basketball.

Well, I think my original contribution to this thread was pretty spot on. Taking a guy with no experience and strong ties to the fanbase was a gamble. Fortunately, it has played out well so far. Hopefully some of the additional revenue from the uptick in bball ticket sales can be spent to put larger doors on the Jacobson building, because I'm not sure how Pollard manages to squeeze his giant stones through there every day.

I agree with your statements, but I find it a little curious that both of your posts contain references to testicles. Is that like, your thing, or something?

Just wanted to know if it was a coincidence or if maybe we were in the middle of a burgeoning viral marketing campaign, or something. The Rise of Testicle Guy. :jimlad:

I was straight up pumped about this when it came out....i knew CFH didnt have any actual coaching experience but the way i looked at it was ....has he ever failed at anything hes ever done? Everything he has done has he done that really well? i think the answers are coming in and im more excited now bout the future of the program that ive ever been

This hire caught me off guard when it happened but I never doubted Fred's ability to do the job.

Some have lost theirs.

Actually that was probably what untied Cyclone Nation on the Hoiberg hire. Thank you, Johnny Jams.

I was really hoping for BG.
I wouldn't argue with you right when FH was hired since FH had no experience and BG did but FH has proven now he is the best fit for ISU basketball. Not sure who would want BG now...unless you meant back when FH was hired you were hoping for BG?

Let me start by saying I'm thrilled by last season's results. I also think that recruiting looks great, particularly given today's news about ISU's ranking in that area. I'm a HUGE fan of HoiBall and couldn't be happier with where ISU is today, especially given the pitiful performance of the prior coach, whose name I will not utter.

However, some of you guys are acting like Fred has already won back-to-back conference titles with a final four appearance to boot. Everything looks encouraging at this point, but the fact is that it's still way too soon to say whether Fred has "arrived" yet. I think it will happen, but I'd first like to see how the first year of the post-Royce White era goes!

Not the hero CF needs, but the hero CF deserves.

Yeah because he has done so well at Texas Tech...

Look what FH did his first season at ISU, should that be how he is evaluated, BG walked into an even tougher situation than Freddie did, it'll take some time but I think he'll get them competitive. That said, no Cyclone fan should have any regrets about how things worked out.

You're amusing. Positive yet negative....

It is a good point to make. I agree with everything in this post.
