The unconventional part is that they are from Florida and California rather than Iowa. If we were getting five or six commits within a couple of weeks of our summer camps under Danny Mac and they were all from various small towns in Iowa, no one would be batting an eye. I think it's just hard to believe that there are these under the radar guys down in recruiting hotbeds and that we are the ones finding them. This is staff has earned the benefits of a couple of dozen doubts, so I'm not going to throw stones.
I honestly think they are building a base and then will focus a bunch of their resources later in the season on the 10-12 spots they have left on some highly ranked guys. I appreciate the heck out of Mac and all he did to help ISU, but I think we've all been conditioned by years under Mac to think a certain way about ISU football and recruiting as a part of that - it's clear CPR is not following Mac's example in this as well as a number of things. And that's a GOOD thing, by and large.
Cheers
"Kids with no BCS offers never amount to anything"
Signed Jake Knott and AJ Klein
"Kids with a lot of BCS offers always turn out"
Signed Aaron Moore
True, but if you look at the guys, on defense especially, that have been major contributors over the past couple of years, the majority have been guys that have been ranked lower and had minimal, if any, other BCS offers. No one can argue that the strength of our team right now is our defense, built with guys exactly like the types of guys that we are getting commitments from.Lol, to be fair, for every Jake Knott and AJ Klein, there are hundreds of players that fail.

According to Rivals, he runs a 4.5 40 yd. and has a 34 inch vertical. Acceptable athleticism IMO. And I remember Mike Clemons who was a DB back in the days of Earle Bruce who was as slow as a tortoise but was a 3 year starter. Clem was great at playing proper position and probably played faster in pads than without pads. Some guys are just players.

It doesn't have to be all about speed.....He won't be running in a straight line every single play for 40 yds....
:skeptical:
EDIT: So are Kamari S. & Tyler B.
We need a stud quarterback. The rest of this stuff is just something to talk about when there is nothing else going on. A great QB is the difference maker. As long as we have a few good offensive linemen, which we never have a problem finding, and a few good defensive players, the rest of the guys can be servicable and we will have a good team. But we need a stud quarterback. A quarterback makes the difference, whether we have a few guys that were not offered by anyone else or that aren't rated doesn't matter if we have a great QB. QB is what matters.
He will when he's trying to chase down 4.3 WR's that just got behind him.
I think if his initial scouting report that was posted said he ran a 4.5 40 rather than the 4.73, you'd see a lot less posts complaining.
The 4.73 couldn't have been what the kid currently runs and I think many of us knew that and that's why we were mocking it. Seriously folks, a DB who runs a 4.73 would never be offered by a d-1 school.

What was all-Big 12 CB LJ's electronically timed 40 time at the NFL combine?
Also, we have definitely had plenty of DBs at ISU who ran in the 4.7 range, especially safeties.... though usually their recruiting profile says 4.5 or some other time that is faster than they actually run. Sadly I think we have had a few who couldn't sniff 4.7.
Also, I think those times on recruiting sites need to be taken with a huge grain of salt, and if a time is posted that is actually accurate it will make a recruit look worse when compared to all the other inaccurate times. I remember Stevie Hicks Rivals profile had him at 4.5, he was really up around 5 seconds.
Just to be clear, we're talking about the Leonard Johnson that wasn't drafted right?
He also ran a better time at his pro day.
Sometimes players just don't have good technique for the 40 which costs them some time. I guess I should clarify my previous post. If a player can't run faster than 4.73 at any time, he's not making it as a major college cornerback. That doesn't mean that just because a guy runs a 4.73 forty one time that he can't be successful.
Anyway, I never believed that time accurately reflected his speed. It couldn't have.
So we shouldnt expect or desire kids that have 3, 4 or 5 stars? And cannot in any fashion even ask the question of why we are not getting them?
Please find the post that bashes CPR.....ill wait. Also find the one that bashes the staff recruiting kids.....ill wait longer.
NOBODY was bashing them.....the "negative" posters some of you keep crying about were either A) Just having some fun and joking about how we are going after non football players next ,etc or B) legitimately asking why we are not getting some of those guys......which....is a valid concern....expressed by many on here. It wasnt bashing...it was asking a question......or....is that not allowed here?
