Ok what am i missing with our recruiting?

WR-This is just my opinion but the talent is much better now than then. We can look at offers if you want. Harris, West, Bundrage, Ecby, West (the big one) all had solid offers.

You took one of the Dlineman and Lyle would be close with Maggitt IMO. Kennard Banks wouldn't crack the two deeps on this roster, IMO. Watson, Richardson and Lynn are all going to be better and those guys are young.

My argument kind of sucks because a lot of the guys i have mentioned haven't even had the chance to prove themselves yet but they will.

We think.

And Kennard would have easily been 2 deeps back then. He started over Benton. How you can take Watson, Richardson, and Lynn over Benton right now is beyond me. It's all a what if game. We know depth is better. We don't know talent.

I didnt say i did...in fact i clearly said i was curious as im not a recruiting expert. Most people on earth start a thread asking a question bc they want more information on something...which i respectfully i think did....MOST people responded with outstanding info, and private messages...which is good enough for me.....velo and yourself?..im not sure why you came in the thread at all to be honest...not bashing but neither of you really had much to offer.

I would say its fair to judge a kid RIGHT NOW by what his other offers were and by a respected recruiting website says about a kid....i dont think thats out of line at all. I mean if you want to judge them all as great because the messiah CPR recruited them, and he can do no wrong in your eyes....thats ok too. We just dont all operate that way.

It is not reasonable at all to compare the offers these commits have now in June, to previous classes offers on signing day after their Sr. seasons are over. Some are bound to pick up more offers. I'm not sure if there is a respectable recruiting service. More stars or offers would make me feel better too, but would not necessarily be better. I agree that depth is much better than in the past and that is at least as important to me.

Didn't we have a decent amount of guys last year that weren't ranked but had three stars closer and closer to signing day? A lot of teams are going after the higher ranked guys right now, we are getting a jump start on the guys they WILL fall back on.

I love CPR. Huge man crush on him. I just think it's an honest question to ask why recruiting has been so much a struggle after the big wins we had last year. We should have a lot of momentum.
I think that perhaps the proper question should be, "Why do you think it has been 'such a struggle'"?

After all, the only evidence that it has been "a struggle" is in inference and perception. That doesn't make it so.

The thing is, when you point out that recruiting is not going well people come back with ISU will never get a lot of 4 and 5 star talent. But that is not what people are expecting. I think people expect that after three years they start seeing higher ranked three star recruits signing, maybe a 4 star or two in a class, or maybe some 3 stars with good offer lists.

People are aware of the recruiting limitations but that does not mean they can't improve. I think last year they were ranked in the 70s on rivals for their class. If they can just move up to around 50 it would be a great improvement and something I think they should be doing after three years.

What good is beating the #2 country on national TV if you can't turn it in to getting better recruits?
Since there are only 60 or so BCS teams, you hope to have a class ranked higher than 60.

I agree, we've gotten great production out of 2* guys but we've also seen that there is a limit to what kind of team we can have built on guys like this. If we want to get over the 6-6ish hump, talent has to upgraded. I think this is an example of just how much more difficult it is to build a football program vs basketball. Obviously having more schollies to fill makes a difference but there are other factors as well. Freddie was able to get some serious momentum going after 1 NCAA appearance, that may have Cyclone fans spoiled and expecting CPR to make the same kind of progress but its not that simple.
These new guys do look faster than the old ones.

Watch the video and decide whether it bothers you that Iowa State was the only school to offer this QB (#2 in dark navy uni).

(By the way, the opposing team is San Jacinto. DE David Irving's high school team.)

At the least, these commits should make for a very interesting 2012 HS football season. Hope you all have your video cameras ready.

I wish we would land a couple more instate guys. Letting them go to the hawks and to mizzou especially grinds my gears.

I am in no way worried about our recruiting in June before a kids senior season and before most have had a chance to take official visits here, especially game day visits. Getting them into Ames and JTS is probably the hardest part. The atmosphere and passion of the staff and the fans help tremendously.

Have to admit, I find it so funny to see people get so wrapped up in recruiting. It doesn't matter what classes you sign, it matters what those classes do. So relax. Some of our better players over the years have been walk-ons.

Man, we were jacked to get Sed from a&m (a 4*) werent we? How'd that turn out?

I'm married and while my wife had exactly zero other offers, I hit a home run. She and I are the ideal fit for the system we run.

Totally invalid argument. You built your program on partial qualifiers and by beating out weak competition.

:jimlad:

*disclaimer: I know neither SpokaneCY, nor his wife, but the joke was there, so I took it.

How's what paying off for me? I'm not the one worrying. I'm simply saying that others shouldn't jump on the OP for worrying about our recruits.

There are two types of people in life. You are either a contaminator or a contributor. The irony is that I'm guessing all you ******** believe you are contributors.

What were Jake Knott and AJ Klein rated?

Exactly!! CPR looks for players that fit the system. Four and five star recruits would be nice, but there's still time for a lot of things to happen. Just because we don't have any right now, doesn't mean we won't in the future.

Fact is, a lot of early commits seem to back out anyway, so sign the ones who are, "all in", or start looking elsewhere. It's a waste of time to just recruit studs who want multiple offers to pad their resume.

Translation: someone who disagrees with YOU is a contaminator. Someone who agrees with YOU is a contributor.

Guess what? That "contaminator" across the room believes HE is the contributor and YOU are the contaminator.

See how that works????????
