Disclosure Day

The critics seem to be all over the place on this one. Some are saying it is one of Spielberg’s better films in a long time. Others seemed to rip on the plot and thought it was boring. There was consensus that Emily Blunt was really good in the film.
I would be willing to bet that older critics lean towards the 'it's great' side of things with the younger critics really not liking it. Spielberg just doesn't and hasn't resonated with young movie goers in a very long time unfortunately. But for those that grew up on his stuff...this is a great addition to his movie cannon. I think it's a great side piece to Close Encounters with a nice dose of Minority Report. If you like those movies, you'll like this one very much.

this is where i'm at. is it an Oscar movie? No...but it was never intended to be. Is it Spielberg's best? No. But it 100% does what a movie experience USED to be without all these internet critics tearing down small things. Sometimes I just want to go to a movie, sit back, watch some amazing scenes, be made to think, and have an emotional reaction....and when a movie does that well even if there are flaws, I love it! That's what some movies are just meant to do and this does that.

Critics lose me when they say a movie like this just wasn't believable yet the same critic thinks a movie like Con Air is one of the best action movies ever made....because THAT is believable?
Fury Road is the best action movie and it's gonna be for a long time.

Yes, great action movie but I didn’t like it. Zero story and I can’t look over that. Unpopular take I know.
To me the story is just seeing the apocalyptic culture that the director has created. He doesn't really tell you, he shows you through the mundane moments of their lives.

Super late to the party on this, but I finally saw Disclosure Day last night. The plausibility of the cover-up really drove the movie and there was a good flow from beginning to end. I thought the storytelling lined up nicely with what we've come to expect from Spielberg. I thought the broadcast reveal at the end accompanied by the public's reaction was beautifully shot.

My largest gripe was the storm trooper level of ineptitude by the Wardex agents. They were a super secret agency comprised of a security team that can't see a dude (that they were actively searching for!) whether he is running behind a 2 plank fence or slightly ducking behind a rock that is 10 feet away.

Despite that, I was definitely entertained and thought the pacing of the movie was perfect for the story that was told.

It's a bummer more people aren't giving it a shot. Is some great award movie? No. Is it the best of the year? No. But it's a summer popcorn movie that has great acting, sequences, action, and a story that makes you emotionally invested and makes you think. I loved it.

Thanks for the prompt.

As a goofball steeped in UFO lore — the mythology, the sightings, the abductions, all of it — I can definitely enjoy Disclosure as a summer escape flick. The challenge for me is suspending reality. Even though there are no concrete answers about who or what non‑human intelligences are, or what they “want,” I’ve spent enough time in the subject that I have a frame of reference I can’t turn off.

If I’m looking for something genuinely scary, I actually find that more in documentaries like this one:https://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/th...ecret-of-skinwalker-ranch.262685/post-8736503

And if the goal is trying to understand what these beings might want, Dr. David Jacobs’ work is about as insightful as anything out there:https://www.bing.com/videos/rivervi...om/channel/UCnaIeNm-jSa1l8yHrn7PlQg&FORM=VIRE
