Gun Enthusiasts: Please advise

Cool idea, but I've seen some ballistic gel test results with the .410 shotgun shell and pistol cartridge, and neither load performs well to penetrate the target. So, I would be wary of this option (but I do think it is a cool gun).

This is true, but the Judge will fix any stray cat that **$$es on your tractor seat. :wideeyed: Just sayin'

That's a good point. Though if I was looking at home defense for my lady friend, I would be willing to trade penetration power for an increased chance to hit the target. Go with a .410 shell with 3 to 5 rounds of buckshot. Very limited range, but I would think more than enough for any likely encounter with an intruder.

Don't be a ***** - get one of these

Hand gun fire home defense... Taurus judge. Its a 410 shell hand gun... can't miss and won't kill.... perfect for home defense.

You will hit every square foot if a 4by8 sheet of drywall with one of these... it'll hurt... scare and remove the threat. Past that. Hand guns easily kill... this is truly a defensive weapon...and will name and hurt... but not kill.

This dude be drunk!

They make special defense rounds for the Judge that do serious damage. If its for home defense buy a 870. If your going to carry it do not buy a full frame pistol they are hard to conceal. I have the SP101 in .357 and it is a great pistol, it is on the heavy side but that weight helps when shooting .357. What ever you buy shoot, shoot, shoot. You can have the nicest pistol in the world but if you cant shoot it its worthless, PRACTICE!

If someone is breaking into my house with the intent stealing something, I protect my family and let them have what they want. Searching out a criminal in your home is dumb stuff...unless you're a SWAT member or something. If they come into the room where my family is, I am not going to risk throwing shot at them and praying they go away because it hurt.

Five rounds of 410 shot all over them.... they'll leave. This is a true defensive weapon.... and won't kill... I post a video later... good stuff.

THIS. Protecting your life and the lives of family members is the goal, and if someone enters the room we have retreated to, I won't be shooting to hurt them a lot and hope they run away crying. To use deadly force, you must be in fear for your life and the threat must possess deadly force and be capable of using said deadly force.

Remember, Iowa law currently includes duty to retreat (pending castle doctrine / stand your ground law currently in progress).

I think the Judge is a cool weapon and would be a fun one to shoot with out on the range / farm / etc, but I have my doubts regarding its capacity to deliver a round that can penetrate as needed. I hope Taurus overcomes this hurdle and it becomes a reliable choice.

Shooting at something you don't intend to kill is a bad idea. Period. Unless you are playing laser tag or something.

I just got a Smith & Wesson M&P 40 a couple months ago & love it. I mainly went with it because I like the way it feels over the Glock & XD.

I don't think the recoil is bad at all on these 40's, but I have never shot a 9mm so I assume the recoil on those must be non-existent...

the gun that Bruce Willis shoots Jack Black with in the movie "The Jackal". It's also remote controlled!!

I've been thinking about purchasing a handgun strictly for home defense purposes and was told a lot of the same things people have already said in this thread- best weapon is a 12 ga pump action (I'm looking at the Mossberg 500 security models) because the sound of racking it may be enough to chase an intruder off. One thing I was told that I haven't seen posted yet is you can't just get a semi-auto, load it, and expect it to work a year later when you need it. You can get away doing this with a revolver though.
