Report: Jim Tressel resigns

Yeah let's see.... Iowa won the B10 twice in the last few years. ISU won the B12-Big eight........ Kind of hard to talk very much trash from the Cyclone perspective.

Iowa State doesn't pretend like it is a national power every year and go 7-5 and finish third or fourth in the Big 10. Iowa hasn't won an outright Big 10 title in over 50 years.

Exactly. I would assume that if this guy can rally the troops, he'll get a good hard look.

If I was a Nebraska, Wisconsin, or Iowa fan this news would make my year.

I'm calling Nebraska v. Wisconsin in the first ever B1G Championship game. The players will be completely confused as to who is on their team.

Don't forget Michigan. The guy that owned them is gone.

Ferentz is not going to get a serious look/offer by OSU...that is not who they would go after. Anyone who thinks that is just kidding themselves. I could only see them talking to Bo out of the Big Ten, but even that is iffy.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they have someone in before the season.

All that cheating and it didn't even get them to the nc game. Time to call chizik and see how he did it.

My biggest question: what did Gene Smith know? Also, you have to imagine this assistant they promoted knew something; it'd be kind of hard not to.

From the DM Register article:

The straw that allegedly broke the camel’s back was a Sports Illustrated report by esteemed investigative journalist George Dorhmann, which is slated to hit newsstands this week.

Who else falls at The OSU?

I'd been wondering about what kind of impact this would have on recruits. Guessing there's not much potential upside for ISU, since we probably weren't seriously being considered with guys that had OSU on their short list.

Actually I recall getting a few good players out of Ohio last time that program was in the doldrums. I believe a lot of talent comes out of that state. Rhoads old Pitt connections can't hurt us at this juncture.

Gonna be tough to get rid of a minority AD who apparently didn't know about the issues that Tressel was hiding.

It's his responsibility to know. Whether or not he did is another matter. He's guilty by being the boss. As coaches and staff walk around the locker rooms and see players sporting new tats and driving cars that seem to appear out of the blue, don't they wonder and ask questions knowing the cost of tats, and lots of tats, and cars? Yes, they do see it. Yes, they know. Yes, they are obligated to ask questions and demand compliance. They have a larger responsibility, since it is a state funded university.

What if he can prove that he continually asked Tressel about whether his program was in compliance? He's not going to start an investigation if his head coach is telling him that everything is on the up and up.

Twitter is all on fire with stuff about pryor and 9 free cars when he was in school, sounds like Tressel knew about it.

You are correct. My bad.

And a pic of his wife, for good measure:

Re: Tressel resigns

Everyone knows we were the stepping stone that Auburn told Chizik he needed before he could get the Auburn job. They weren't going to just give it to him without any head coaching experience. If this was the Pitt job (again), I'd be a bit more concerned, as there is prior history there. There is no prior history with OSU for Coach Rhoads.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Rhoads was grad asst at tOSU under Cooper, but I'm too lazy to look it up to confirm it.

That said, they are aiming way higher and I am not worried in the least.
