David Sims charged

You have to rape or assault someone to be removed from an athletic program?

Sad.

that was just my examples....i picked those 2....do i feel he should be kicked off the team for this offense? no i dont...but should be punished and i think CPR will hand it out accordingly IMO :cute:

I really doubt he misses any games. "Handled internally" all but says that without actually saying it.

I agree. I doubt he misses any games after hearing that quote from Rhoads.

"Handling it internally" means there will be no game suspension. In Webster's Kirk Ferentz edition dictionary.... under "handled internally" it states very clearly that said player will not be punished whatsoever... nothing to see here.... bye bye now.

the kid screwed up, suspend him 1 or 2 games due to the charge, dont let him be a captain, make him run more than some of the others....call it a day on this one. He didnt rape or assault anyone. Made poor judgement but doesnt justify kicking him off the team

Given the context here, with a program that doesn't (at least right now) have a whole laundry list of off-the-field problems, I honestly think this is just about right. Sims seems like a guy who will get the point and move on without doing this or worse.

If we had a whole list of things going wrong, then I would say something more severe, because Coach would need to get the attention of a much larger number of people. In this case, I'd say that one game probably does it, but two would be fine, also.

The way I see it is that this crime isn't as severe as an OWI. Theft is no small deal, but it's not something that he's going to hurt someone. An OWI typically warrants a 1 games suspension for first time offenders so that's what I would expect here.

WHO CARES WHAT IOWA DID OR HAS DONE........worry about yourself....take care of what you can control... not what you cant.... you cant kick someone off a team for a misdemeanor theft charge...... it can easily happen to to anyone that has a lapse in judgement for a split second... Believe me if the county attorney believed that this would be a trend he could have easilly made it a felony theft... I imagine that they moved it down to a misdemeanor to help out sims with the situation he got himself into.......

100% cyclone fan!!!!

A lot of you guys are huge hypocrites. Had this happened with an Iowa player, you all would be outraged at there not being a suspension. You all would want that player to be kicked off the team as soon as the first whisper of the incident happened. I'm ashamed that you cheer for the same team as me.

It's also interesting how law and order you are for other teams, but not the Hawks.

It is interesting to see that all of the hawks go all over the internet, and defend all of the illegal activity committed by their players, but they are the first to comment other teams.

This is one of the main reason why people don't like them.

I know your post wasn't directed at me, but I still just want to say that I am not one to typically defend Iowa players' mistakes and condemn those of other schools' players. I didn't defend Clayborn's punching out a cabbie (though I empathized with him. There's a difference between empathy and condoning). I do tend to defend Iowa when people talking about the 20+ arrests a couple years back, because the majority of those were public intox/MIP's/etc. That's typical college kid stuff. The DUI's/rape/credit card fraud/etc. I was nowhere to be found at the defense table.

I only get miffed about the public intox stuff getting lumped in with the real crimes. It's just like a QB padding his completion% with screen passes: they aren't usually significant plays in the context of a game, but they make the numbers look better (or worse, in the case of Iowa's arrest string).

Based on what I've read, Sims' actions were clearly wrong and just plain stupid. Nobody in this situation can claim ignorance. Whether the card was found, stolen or just magically appeared, you don't use someone else's credit card without their permission.

Frankly, I'm kind of shocked at some of the responses in this thread. Granted, I don't know what was purchased, the amount or in what matter, but it doesn't matter. You just plain and simple can't be this stupid.

Now, he may be able to plea this down to a lesser charge and perhaps through the course of the investigation/trial, the circumstances will change surrounding the facts of the case, but at this point, Sims may never suit up for ISU again, and if that happens, I'm completely fine with it.

I'm not trying to be the moral police and my opinion matters about as much as a three pound turd, but I just can't believe Sims would be so careless and engage in such a stupid act when he has/had so much potentially in front of him. I really do hate that we may never see him again and it's beyond frustrating just how much this defense might suffer without him, but people have to learn from their mistakes and be held accountable for their actions, and this is a lot more serious than getting a public intoxication or something of the sort.

Addition: Just wanted to add that I'll be fine with whatever decision the coaching staff makes, but this is very disappointing.

I don't think the boot is appropriate at all. But he certainly needs to sit more than 1 game. I also don't think the degree of the misdemenor should be a factor at all. Allegedly he knowingly used a CC to purchase things for himself, in my mind it doesnt matter if he bought a $600 TV Set or a $250 PS3. The crime itself is the same.

An indefinate suspension (min of 2 games) and up to 4 or so seems right (Back for the conference schedule for sure). Paulie should set some conditions not only to get reinstated but also going forward that he should meet.

I know one thing. If this ends up being zero time (or even 1 game) I don't want to hear another clown fan spew garbage about the Iowa program or how it handles diciplinary action going forward. I have zero doubt that if this were an Iowa player he would be missing 3+ games, and possibly a season.

Hoks, Freerentz, EIU, blah blah blah same old tired stuff.

This is a joke. The kid used a credit card that wasn't his for over $500 in purchases (allegedly.) Anyone who says "stairs" for a punishment should suffice has serious, serious misplaced priorities.

I just said that I don't care what Iowa does. Yeah, it's funny material for trash talk but honestly I don't care if Bernstine, Hampton, Binns are or aren't suspended. I was simply saying ISU should deal with it however they see fit, and we shouldn't compare it to Iowa.

even though my post was a reply to disagree with someone comparing us to Iowa, you still felt it necessary to interpret as me slighting your hawks.

David Sims: was on the wrong path turning right. I'm good now I just had to make a detour
per his facebook.. i know i know stalker... yada yada yada

KF kicked 2 Iowa players off the team for the same thing. Granted, the Iowa players charge was a felony because of the dollar amount, but it's still basically the same crime.

So if Sims had charged just a few more bucks on the card, that would be worth getting kicked off the team, but now he deserves not even a one or two game suspension?

If he gets nothing, then fine. At least we're joining the big boys in terms of how we dish out punishment. But we can no longer put ourselves above Iowa in terms of our discipline. Which is fine by me. If we want to win, we need to find a way to keep our best players on the field. Iowa has done it for a while now. We might as well too, right?

You had me in the first paragraph but by the end you went full blown loony.

I think it's fair to say that had this happend to an Iowa player KF would probably sit him for the majority of the season. He would be in that situation because of some of the things that have happend withing the program in the past, and I think most reasonable people would understand that and agree with it. Iowa State has a relatively clean slate in this regard, and as such doesn't have to be quite as harsh in this case, and I'm fine with that too. But to say it's fine if he gets nothing is beyond idiotic.

5th degree theft.....thats it? That is like what a kid would be charged with for shoplifting.

Ok.. this isn't picking on KF, because most coaches do the same, but if we're going by past actions of most college programs, a DUI = 2 games, and this is a majority of the season? seems a little wonky to me.

Oh lord...this is like nails on a chalk board. A VAST majority of us could give a rats *** about what Iowa does to its players. Get over yourself.

I haven't heard how much he charged to the card. Do you think that should have bearing on his punishment, or is it irrelevant?

mr sims what u did was kind of stupid.i hope that if you read the cyclone fanatic athletic board, that you get your head on straight and take advantage of your football scholarship and get your degree.please get your head on right and finish your academic career and maybe you will get a chance to play professional football.best wishes.

I actually didn't even mean to quote your post. I didn't realize I did that until now. I was trying to post a broad reply.

Wrong, a vast majority of us don't. Its only the vocal minority that you think is everybody....
