David Sims charged

At this point he is "charged" not "convicted". Rhoads has taken immediate action, some coaches wait a little longer to see how the law procedure plays out before handing down penalties. I would guess that the charges will be reduced dependant on how good a lawyer Sims has or how long Sims or the football program wants to keep this in the public eye. Some of the penalty immediately given was mandatory per ISU ath dept rules. Sims made a bad decision and if handled correctly he and the team will survive. Its said that 5 minutes can ruin a lifetime.

Sometimes it doesn't even take that long.

...not sure if anybody else brought this up as I haven't taken the time to read every single post but...

What if Sims is actually innocent? It sounds plausible to me. How doe we know the son didn't take his mom's credit card and told Sims it was okay to use it. Then Sims would really only be guilty of being duped and a little stupid, wouldn't he?

I'm thinking that CPR has done exactly what he should for now in stripping him of his captain duties. And now he will wait for the case to be tried before taking further action. If it turns out like my scenario above then the charges may even end up getting dropped at some point.

.

he must be really, really DUMB to use someone's credit card although the son told him to do so. I know I would be cautious and would confirm to the credit card owner first.

Oh lord...this is like nails on a chalk board. A VAST majority of us could give a rats *** about what Iowa does to its players. Get over yourself.

And cyclones6785...most of us DON'T root for the same team that you do because you root for the hawkeyes. Just look at the post history.

If that was the case, Sims would be well advised to take the rap. Accepting things from the son could result in Sims losing his eligibility, couldn't it?

I agree that CPR is handling things properly. Best to move slowly. See what happens in the judicial process. Taking drastic action early and then having things possibly get dropped or lowered down to a very minor charge would only succeed in hurting Sims and the team. Rest assured that Sims is on a short leash now. And it is my understanding that he hasn't been in trouble before.

Can you say improper benefits/major NCAA violation?

A lot of you guys are huge hypocrites. Had this happened with an Iowa player, you all would be outraged at there not being a suspension. You all would want that player to be kicked off the team as soon as the first whisper of the incident happened. I'm ashamed that you cheer for the same team as me.

We don't cheer for the same team you cheer for. You cheer for the Hawkeyes.

The only time I ever see you post is defending the Hawkeyes or their fans. Hell, I think you've even openly declared being a Hawk fan. Change your account name and quit acting like you're fooling anyone.

To be fair on this case, we don't know everything yet. What if Sims made restitution to the victim? What if Sims didn't actually do it?

Keep making stuff up to fit your warped little world. I love ISU athletics. I hate the majority of ISU fans.

That's accurate. That minority is REALLY vocal and their numbers are therefore exaggerated in perception.

You mean like the "vocal minority" of hawk fans who degrade ISU, the Cyclones, Ames and Cyclone fans at EVERY opportunity? I love that Coe and Kirkwood grads feel that they can look down on my two ISU degrees.

What badmouthing the hawkeyes get from Cyclone fans, their fanbase has pretty much earned.

That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

And your post history does indicate an obsession with Iowa and the Big 10...

What am I making up? You are obviously a Hawkeye fan, or have some kind of obsession with the Hawks. You only post to defend them. Period.

I think someone's just mad that the rest of the internet figured out their pathetic little game.

If a Hawk player did what Sims did, I wouldn't really care what happened to them, and before you point out the thread I created in the In-State rivals forum yesterday, I'd like to ask you to show where I suggest that they actually be prosecuted or punished for drinking underage. Oh wait, I never suggested that.

Here's your posting history. A ridiculously high % of these posts defend Iowa or attack Iowa State. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/search.php?searchid=2563560

AP article: Galesburg Radio 14...WGIL

Police began investigating when a Des Moines woman reported July 17 that her credit card, which her son had taken to Ames, was stolen. The card was used at several Ames-area businesses. Police searched Sims' apartment last week.

A man who identified himself as Sims hung up when offered the chance to comment Tuesday.

This wasn't some hiccup, lapse in judgment...he went to several stores and bought items with a stolen card. Some resting easy b/c it's "only a misdemeanor" should consider it is just dollar amounts that separate this from being a felony.

Only kind of accurate Jon.

It's true that only a minority are REALLY vocal about any transgression by Hawks. However, arguably a majority of Cyclone fans won't hesitate to "turn the knife" and encourage the stereotype that Ferentz is lax on discipline and that the Iowa program is full of "criminals." And, for the record, neither of those are accurate/correct.

Similarly, Rhoads doesn't operate a rogue program either ... even though there hasn't been a shortage of bad behavior at ISU.

I really like this board ... however my primary pet peeve has been this very issue. The propagation of the aforementioned stereotypes is rather astounding. It troubles me when folks can so easily replace fact with fiction.
