Lucca's Facebook Status (4/26/10)

It isn't a matter of putting the blame on the kids that left. It's just poor taste for them to be taking pleasure in the program sinking just when we thought it couldn't sink any further.

I just told a coworker about those posts and his response was this: "No Lucca, it looks like the ISU family is coming back together."

I agree.
Someone who has Lucca as a friend on facebook should comment on Lucca's status saying that!

I have a friend that started a business years back. Struggled to get it going. She had another friend that helped her a ton to get started. Referred people, loaned her money, etc. My friend was very grateful for this.

Over the years though, this other person behaved as if she owned my friend. Reminded her constantly the favors, referrals, etc. Treated her like crap.

Eventually my friend had enough. She didn't owe this person money anymore. Thanked her one last time for helping her get started but reminded this person it was her own work that built that business. And cut all ties with her.

Was she wrong? Should she have tolerated the nonsense because this person helped her get a good start?

I've heard from more than one person Greg was not nice to the players. Preached family and would be nice as can be one minute - but could turn vicious the next. I would not disagree players need to toughen up - but from what I understand coach/player relations were very, very inconsistent in Ames.

I call BS on this story. You didn't have a friend.

I could care less about either one of these players...neither of them want to be here. Why should we worry what they think?

Alot of things will come out of this, including the reasons for the departures of players. Will be interesting to hear from past players, once McDermott is not the coach anymore. I have noticed there is a real hate for McDermott by players who have transfered.

I agree. Could be an interesting couple of weeks after he leaves with the stories that have potential of coming out.

I think some people want to know exactly why they didn't want to be here and they have a pretty good idea who that "why" is. At the moment, he appears to be the new head coach of the Creighton basketball program.

I think Dendy's comments are the tip of the iceberg.

And that concerns me. Up until last night, JP was 100% behind Greg. If things come out that point to Greg not being good with the players at all - how does that reflect on our athletic department and the decision to not make a change (on their own accord) this off-season?

Part of me wants to know what was really going on up there. The other part of me is concerned about what we will hear and the potential fallout from it.

IMO it can't get any worse than it already was. If a couple players can't make grades or decide to leave now, who cares. This program was going to have to hit the reset button at some point, better next year than the year after.

I'm with you there on that last part. I want to know, but I don't want to know. Some of the stories that come out are going to be nasty. I don't have any inside knowledge on things like that, I don't have sources, but I've seen (like most of us) the fallout when there aren't consequences or relationships to consider, and this will get ugly as we hear the other side of the last four years.

Here's my theory on Greg and his relations:

Greg is from a small Iowa town. He went to Northern Iowa. After that, he went to North Dakota to be an assistant, then Wayne State, and finally UNI. These are in small midwestern towns and needless to say they aren't getting many people who aren't from that culture already.

I honestly believe the personal issues come from the fact McDermott came to ISU, started recruiting players of different cultural backgrounds and he personally couldn't connect with the ones who were different (who are most of them) thus leading to a problem. TJ Otz is a big reason these players came..he recruited many.

That's my take from the outside looking in.

Yes I think it could get ugly and may not look to good for ISU. But if the problems appear to rest on McD instead of the athletic department than it shouldn't be so bad.

I really don't care either way how these stories turn out I am just happy to have a fresh start. The whole situation is what it is and all we can hope is going upward from here.

is it weird that lucca still has his profile picture in an ISU uniform?

Yea, seems almost like all these former players that leave us (Ham/Lucca) have no problem with Iowa State itself because they leave up profile pictures of them competing for us. It's like they have something against something else. I dunno perhaps a coach?

All I know is there is one common thread in all of the player departures from ISU...that common thread is GM.

But you go ahead and keep banging on the kids.

They're from a different cultural background than what he is familiar with and knows. I think that's the main problem. He couldn't build much common ground.

That's my view anyway.
