Apparently I haven't seen the level of talent at ISU coming in that others have. I could care less if we lose anyone else at this point. Sometimes you have to decide to just tear down and build new because remodeling is no longer an option.
Agreed. He's gone and he shouldn't have wasted the time sleeping on it. While I have been extremely critical of his coaching acumen I have always staunchly defended his character. Well screw that.

I'm holding out some small vestige of hope that there was a plan here to look out for Grayer, but that is a really small vestige.
If he has crapped on my favorite Cyclone of all time, he makes his way right to the bottom of the Cyclone list. That would (will?) be a trashy move.
You are just a worry wart. We were ticketed for ten anyway. We will just look like Iowa last year. Yet we will have an upside.
Isn't this the same mentality that put Morgan in charge after Larry? Granted, in hindsight, Wayne was not a bad hire in terms of wins and postseason, but I remember many blasting the decision to promote an assistant to hold onto recruits when it happened. We've seen MANY recruits come and go over the past 4+ years, so I'm not sure 'holding on to our high profile recruits' is the way we should be thinking about this - especially when at least half of them are last minute emergency additions to the team.
I wouldn't worry about keeping TJ. We are beginning the recovery process of one of the worst era's in Cyclone MBB history, a clean slate would be best. Nothing against TJ, I actually thought he was one of the few bright spots of the gmac era. Having said that, I don't consider Grayer and Nurse part of the gmac regime and would like to see them retained. Not totally sure they weren't brought in for this very scenario only difference is that JP envisioned firing gmac next spring and then promoting Nurse after learning the college game for a year.
Chris, I think you are overstating the importance of both Otz and the recruits coming in. I would rather see a guy come in and not panic, take his lumps for a year and bring in a solid class of his guys in year two.
This. We need to find a guy who is a good recruiter. If we do this thing can be turned around in a couple of years. It will suck if Ejim and Phillips leaves but lets not make them into being John Wall.

In fact, I would encourage TJ to go with Greg. Get the losing attitude out of Ames. We're going to be absolutely horrid this season regardless, just take all the lumps now and move on.
If the new coach felt TJ was worth keeping for the benefit of the program today and tomorrow - then so be it. But do not, absolutely never, ever, ever, ever - let current players/assistants or recruits determine your HC hire.

I don't really know that it is "screwing him over." He will get paid, it's not like he is leaving him homeless.
Wait, hold on. Isn't this what everyone has been asking for? A way out of this Mac deal. For you guys, this should be perfect. I understand the Grayer deal and why you would be ****** but it isn't like he took him from another incredibly great job and now has left him hanging without a pay check. This couldn't have worked better for the anti Mac crowd.
This is a good point imo. The rough start of McD's tenure in the end was too much for McD to overcome. Part of that is on McD, but I think a lot of coaches would have had similar difficulty.
A long these lines, I think a good coach's top priority is to do exactly what CW suggested.
