McDermott to Creighton?

There is mention in the Omaha newspaper.........

Who's next in line for Jays? - Omaha.com

From the article...

"McDermott, 45, had a successful five-year run in the Missouri Valley at Northern Iowa, making the NCAA tourney three times (2004, '05, '06). Before that, he coached at Wayne State and North Dakota State.

In four seasons at Iowa State, McDermott is 59-68 with no winning records. Tension between McDermott and ISU Athletic Director Jamie Pollard grew last season, according to two Big 12 coaches with knowledge of the situation. McDermott is married with three children."

Concerning the obstacle that Creighton would have to pay ISU $800,000 -- doesn't Oregon have to pay a buyout for hiring Altman? Even if the buyout isn't as large, they should definitely have the wherewithal to pay.

Hard to tell without seeing Altman's contract at CU, obviously.

JP would be out of his mind to make CU pay us 800,000. Contracts can be adjusted with mutual agreement.

I am not so sure. #1) $800,000 goes along way. #2) appearance reasons may dictate that CU WANTS to pay some sort of buyout so at least publicly it looks like they got a guy that his school didn't want to just give away.

Anyone think they that he may not want to play against his son 2-3 times a years as opposed to just one here @ ISU? And if he did go to Creighton, would they ask his best bud to release Doug from his LOI so he could go to CU? It would be interesting.

So you would want this $800,000 at the risk of them not taking him and therefor possibly having to pay a $2 million dollar buyout in one year?

Can't imagine Pollard wants to let McDermott go to Creighton and then turn around and play them this fall at Wells Fargo Arena in DSM.
