McDermott to Creighton?

Where are you guys getting this buyout stuff? Almost nobody has a buyout if they leave for another job. And even as good a job as Nurse did in the NBADL I promise you those coaches don't get paid THAT much and they definitely don't have buyouts in their contracts.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. MOST D1 college head coaches have buyouts. When Pollard hired GMac, he was initially after the HC at UWGB and even he had an $800k buyout. GMac has a buyout. Ben Jacobson has a buyout. Everyone does. Auburn payed ISU $750k for taking Chizik. When a coach is hired by another school, that school has to pay the buyout.

Assistants just have contracts. Some are one year, some are two or more. The only way a school can get out of paying the full amount of that contract is if they take another job that pays equal or more. If it's less, than the original school pays the difference (like ISU is with Wayne Bolt).

Mac is the best candidate on that list of 6...IMHO. I think he'd be a great fit for CU...and he needs a fresh start...and so does ISU.

I cannot imagine JP is happy with our MBB program. I really doubt he went out to hire a coach that would win 14-15 games a year. If JP and Mac are smart they'll sell CU on taking him...and I don't really care then what we do. Next year is a dud no matter who sits on the bench. Let Nurse have a go at it...or pick a fan each week to run the team...it won't matter.

IF we could get out of this disaster of a contract and start 1-3 years sooner on a rebuild then we'll be damn lucky.

BTW...funny that KG never mentions the tension? LOL

Here is the relevant portion of the buyout provision in McDermott's original contract with ISU:
"liquidated damages of the lower of $800,000, or the amount equal to the base compensation McDermott would have received for the remaining term under this agreement provided under paragraph II(1)."

base compensation is $225,000, with 5 years left on contract = $1,125,000. So buyout would be $800,000.

I might watch as a neutral observer. Hard to pick sides. Love Larry, love the Cyclones, despise what the torpedo has done to our program.

This line literally made me laugh out loud........had to explain to my wife what had me laughing so hard. Thanks, I needed that!!

I think you know what you were saying but I think the bolted part is a little wrong. Someone has to pay the buyout. I don't think the new school is on the hook unless it is agreed upon. It doesn't have to be the school, but often it is. If I remember correctly Michigan only paid a portion of Rich Rods WVU buyout, and RR was on the hook for some.

Yeah, I suppose that is all in the negotiations and contracts. Either the school has to pay the buyout or the coach himself. My point is that buyouts are commonplace in D1 contracts for FB and MBB.

He will lose to all of them next year. We will be the worst team in any BCS conference I can gaurantee you that.

can you?

you don't even know the make up of the team yet. These new assistants might have something up their sleeves, you never no. I'm not saying they do, but all hope is not lost.

name one team that is having that problem right there. Find me a team that will be worse than DG, SC, CB, two Frosh Ejim, Railey, and 6 players to be named later. Remember this is almost May!!!!!!

I say that we negotiate the buyout to give them McDermott in return for a box of Pogs (preferably with some slammers involved), some removable pencil erasers, and a Penny Hardaway rookie card.

Just wondering if you sit on-lne all day long waiting to fire off these comments on every single post that comes out specific to MBB. I know I'm not not one that contributes usually. I generally try to just read the threads until they become unbearable..........but quite frankly it has become my daily amusement to see every single thread taken over by you and handful of others.

Just throwing my hat in the coaching ring. I'll lead ISU MBB for $100,000/year. That's 1/8th of what Greg did it for, and if I fall below what he did, I'll refund half of my paycheck. I have integrity, and I'm a good guy. Apparently those are the only relevant characteristics to do this job.
