What are you talking about? Creighton would not have to buy out McDermott's contract. Only a very few elite coaches have buyouts in their contracts if the coach leaves for another position and as far I know, Greg isn't one of them. If he is, that was another mistake made by Pollard, in addition to the three year extension.

I thought most coaches had buyouts. I know mcdermott does:

VI, 2, B

(university shall be entitled) to liquidated damages of the lower of $800,000, or the amount equal to the base compensation mcDermott would have received for the remaining term of his agreement proviced under Paragraph II(1)

That said, if someone came calling for McDermott, I would be *shocked* if we didnt at least partially waive that buyout, if not completely waive it altogether.

It could be a win-win for both schools, much like the Chizik to Auburn and Alford to New Mexico deals. It probably won't happen though. If McDermott is interested, he's probably going to have to explain the defections during interview process. That might be tough to do, but then again, there is Pollard's email to help back him up.

It worked with Alford at New Mexico. It appears to have worked for Auburn with Chizik. It's possible Mac would work out at Creighton.

Especially since he now probably has to pay the buyout to nurse that it took to get him here (unless he becomes HC, which wouldnt exactly be a great thing either)..

I don't think Greg wants to leave a job half done. He will continue to work hard to turn around things in Ames.
