People walking out GREATLY outnumbered people walking in. That 1% I was talking about with good reason earlier in this thread....yeah...that's you. The other 99% were the issue.

I'm watching the game now on my DVR. ISU looks OK, better than I thought learning we won in 2 OT. The other team was really quick and made some really nice jumpers and long shots and seemed to get the lucky bounces.
I definitely agree we had problems rebounding. Houston just looked so much quicker. We appears to "watch" at times.
There are times when we pass really well leading to good shot selection and assists. Then other times we go long periods with very quick shots that are many times guarded. I think we need to run when we are hot but not hurry shots or force shots.
For whatever reason (I'm not sure) Brackins just cannot get going this year. He seems to be passive. Gilstrap is a stud. Sometimes is little out of controls but aggressive and for every bad mistake he makes about 10 good moves. I think he is the best player on the court for ISU right now. Not maybe the most draftable... but the best college player right now for ISU.
The most troubling thing about watching the game is it appears Houston is controlling the tempo and ISU is just reacting. At home, we should be setting the pace and determining the attitude and tempo.

Very appropriate description. Also, it doesn't matter why you left your original seats - even if you were on the way out the door, it's no one else's business. The Gladys Kravitz's of Hilton should be watching the game anyway, not sticking their nose in other people's business.
I did not see the game today, as the place we went to for some reason did not have the game on. Thus, the lazyman's quick analysis. I have seen us play enough over the course of the past 3+ years to know what we play like, and so the score today is about what I expected.
The issues related to our play.....we are entirely too easy to defend. No movement, lack of dribble penetration. Post play is not bad due to Craig's talent. I'd rather not see him fade away so much, as that limits his threat to the defense in certain respects, although its hard to argue with his results most of the time. Concerning Offensive rebounding, I would like to see us go harder at the boards and thwart the opponents ability to get the ball out to the wings quickly, this will give us the ability to send more guys to the boards, because the opponents transition to offense will be delayed. Generally speaking I'd rather see a motion offense than all of these sets.
Defensively I'd like to see harder hedges sometimes on pick and roll....mix it up and not be so predictable.
Coachingwise, I don't like to see coach yelling at players all game long about where they are supposed to be and constantly giving them direction. You can't play bball well if you're not prepared about where you're supposed to be all the time, effective bball players react based on scouting reports and instincts. This, IMO is why we typically suck down the stretch of games, because when our set plays breakdown, the guys have been coached to play like robots running set plays, there is no adlib whatsoever.
Since some of you seem to take a liking to attacking my first post in this thread, I would love to hear your input.

If you see the title of the thread it's the Houston @ Iowa State POST Game thread...so since you didn't see the game, it's kind of hard to understand your spectacular breakdown of the game. I just don't get how people keep posting their analysis without seeing today's game. It's like writing a book report without reading the book and just watching the movie.
From your analysis....some things I'd like to point out that happened today. Our dribble penetration was a problem today for most of the game. Colvin came in to help out with that, and then DG picked it up at the end of the game and made some great plays when he did his dribble penetration. Offensive rebounding really wasn't that much of issue today. Ham had some good put backs, and I would hate to see our team crash the boards on the offensive end when we are playing a team that is known for running. Seems kind of silly for us to do today.
Defensively, I think that's the best we played all season...or 3 seasons. We locked down on them most of the time. Houston really wanted to try and take us 1 on 1 and we did a really good job of stopping it most of the time.
I saw the coach yelling at the refs quite a lot today. I know people were looking for some fire from him on that end. I saw it a few times, no Eustachy like blow ups, but definitely harping on the refs quite a bit. Didn't really see the coach telling players where to be or what to do except when there was an obvious mistake made. Others at the game may have more comments on that because I usually don't pay much attention to what the coach is doing on the sidelines, just the play on the court.

Like I said, I wasn't able to see the game today, however, I made the effort too, and it just didn't work out due to the tv packaging issues at the place we went to....however, that doesn't make sense that I would be precluded from making general observations, which have a direct relation to the game today. I'm frustrated with the direction of our team, and I said so without attacking anyone else on here. Nothing complicated about it.
Of course it doesn't preclude you. Just seemed to have a rash of posters on here today that didn't even see the game that were harping on the team. In general it seems most people that saw the game were pleasantly pleased with the exception of a few. Of course there still are some concerns about the team, but today I think was a good step in the right direction.
We lost 2 games down the stretch. If we had those 2 wins, we are a top 25 team. Good win at crunch time. GOOD WIN CYCLONES
Whatever methods the coaching staff is using to "stress" rebounding to the players isn't working.
I think ISU's poor rebounding and weak post play (both offensive and defensive) against better teams are due to the fact that there is nobody on the coaching staff who can teach and develop these skills in the players to a level necessary for mid-major and major conference basketball. I've thought this for the last two years, and I'm even more convinced of it now. Either the desire to rebound has not been instilled in the players, or they just haven't been taught how to do it on the Big 12 level. The kids come into ISU with certain post rebounding skills, and they never seem to advance much beyond what they start with.
If McDermott survives this season, the first thing he needs to do is go out and find a mid to major-conference quality big-man coach for his staff. It's starting to look like Ben Jacobson might know a thing or two about tough post play, so perhaps he should get an offer...

Great win. I loved the hustle in the OT periods.
I think Duke will cream us or bring out our best. I think a gutsy win like todays will help a lot in the confidence department when we face the dookies.

Over the radio, you could clearly hear players' names being yelled out by the coach, but I do believe that happens with every team. I'd rather it didn't have to, but it seems like it does. And since Houston changed their style for this game, maybe it was more likely?

This team is 10-3 with losses to a very good UNI TEAM and when Northwestern was playing their best ball of the year. (They are slowly coming back to normal) One bad loss at Cal. Sure, this team has work to do, but so does most of our future opponents.
