Barnes Decision at 3:10 on Friday

Would someone mind posting the press release? Did it come from HB/mom or the AD at ames high?

AMES—Ames High School senior Harrison Barnes, the nation’s top basketball prospect, will announce his college selection during a national letter of intent signing ceremony Friday, November 13, 2009. The ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Ames High School gymnasium.

Harrison, a member of the 2009 AHS state championship boys basketball team, was honored as the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 4A All-Tournament Team Captain. Harrison is a 3-year letter winner in basketball and a 2-year letter winner in track. He is a 2009 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar and named to the Academic All-conference Team in 2007 and 2009. The Des Moines Register twice named Harrison to the 4A First Team All-State and the 4A Elite All-CIML First Team.
Harrison began garnering national attention his sophomore year and in 2009, was named to PARADE Magazine’s All-America Second Team, and as Gatorade’s Iowa Player of the Year.

Media and the public are invited to attend Harrison’s news conference and letter signing. They are asked to enter through the AHS Activities Entrance. The ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. with a brief introduction by AHS boys basketball coach Vance Downs. Harrison will then begin his remarks. At 3:10 p.m. ESPNU will join the news conference and carry Harrison’s signing live on its network.
Following the signing, Harrison will hold a short question-and-answer period for media attending the event. Reporters are asked to remain in their designated seating area during the question-and-answer portion of the news conference. A short reception with refreshments will take place on the gymnasium balcony after the news conference.

Media will have access to the gymnasium on Friday beginning at 1:30 p.m. Production and/or live trucks will park near the AHS pool on the south side of the building. AHS personnel will be on site to assist and direct those vehicles.

That is kinda interesting, I know their will be a lot of Cyclones with fingers crossed for this thing since the situation of a #1 recruit being in Ames prolly won't happen again. I know NO ONE should boo this kid no matter his decision but you gotta think why would they open up the possibility of that?

Do you honestly think anyone would boo him? Some people seem to think that wanting Barnes to sign here is the same as treating him like crap if he doesn't go to Iowa State. There is a difference.

I am not quite as optimistic as some are about the whole open to the public thing. I suspect that Ames High/ESPN wanted a big event with lots of people and the Barnes' went along with it.

I think you are closer than many want you to be.

I think that worst case scenario, an announcement of another school would be met with silence, or polite applause. Obviously, putting on the Cyclone hat would cause a roar that would shake the foundation of the school.

I think he saw videos of Kobe when he announced that he was taking his talents to the NBA, and remembers how loud that was.

Let the kid enjoy all of his moment in the spotlight.

I guess we won't know for sure until Friday, but I kinda think this would be held in the media center, principal's office, or the library if he was leaving town. I've seen others do it that way on ESPN.
It would be so awkward on national TV if HB announces for another school other than ISU in front of so many Cyclone fans. Not good television. Not good at all.

That really makes you think, doesn't it?

They are either hoping for a huge crowd response, or that, people knowing the kid and the situation, everyone will be happy for Harrison.

I am hoping for the former. It would be a great way to start a season. We need all of the positive momentum we can get.

We were laughing, it was brought up that maybe this would be payback for all that Greg had to struggle with for the last three years.

On Friday, November 13th

ISU plays Idaho State
OU is off
Duke plays UNC-Greensboro
UCLA is off
KU plays Hofstra
UNC is off

Is it a violation for Coaches to be at a press conference....?

If memory serves me correctly Syracuse scheduled and held a pep rally for Carmello Anthony when he either visited or declared for Syracuse. Maybe something to consider.

Look, I know I am biased but when I try my best to be objective I truly believe ISU will provide the best opportunities for HB. He will be showcased and ISU has a good track record for getting their star players to the league. As far as intangibles, none of the other schools will come close to offering the kind of status he will receive at ISU. Yes, this is all ground breaking stuff I know but it is a message board afterall. I encourage pessimists to look for other things to keep their interests this week like complaining about the weather and how unlucky they are.
