JJeff Injury Updates

Nah you’re almost always immobilizing the sprain while trying to control the inflammation. People his height also tend to prefer scooters and crutches have a higher fall rate.

Nothing that has happened in this entire process has been outside the norm or outside what was obvious to predict. Depending on location and degree of the sprain he may or may not be able to give it a go and then it’s most likely about function vs making the injury worse then it is pain. The pain is the easy part to control

I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone on crutches at work. Any leg issue is automatically a scooter anymore. So I wouldn’t read anything into the use of a scooter if they want to immobilize that ankle.

Personal preference for most unless they have to navigate longer distances or have balance issues. Lot of people struggle with crutches for various reasons that the scooter can avoid.

I wish I had the scooter when I had surgery on my ankle 10 years ago (tore a tendon in my left ankle playing hockey. When I knocked a guy down his skate kicked my left skate and made me fall awkwardly). Crutches sucked and I was on them for five weeks.

People shouldn’t read into the scooter for Jefferson versus crutches. If I had had the option I would’ve taken the scooter.

Spent last spring with a serious ankle break requiring surgery. The boot is pretty standard to keep compression and swelling down, even with a sprain.

Also heard speculation about him elevating during the game. Standard move to increase circulation and healing and to reduce inflammation.

A scooter is also pretty standard, not an issue of severity. It's just much easier to get around. Even if you're a physical specimen, the use of crutches wears you out and you can't get around quickly. A scooter also takes some of the pressure off the soft tissue. The force of gravity on the ankle when in a heavy boot can make it ache.

Truth is, we will know when we know, and my guess is nobody, including JJeff knows for sure and it may be a game time decision.

Watched this clip and while most of what he said is right without a baseline MRI everything is essentially “hidden” to use his term minus a full rupture.

Without the MRI results you have no idea what you are actually dealing with. Also thought it was rich that he suggested that he might be tapped or have a brace, he will 100% have both unless the swelling makes it impossible which by itself is an indicator of limitations for play.

The boot and scooter makes me wonder if the coaching team is listing JJ as questionable to force the opposition to practice against that contingency. It doesn't look like a simple ankle injury. I suspect he is out for the season.

I'm assuming this analysis is from the medical degree you earned from staying at the Holiday Inn Express last night. Me? I'll save the negative speculation until we get a doctor's report or Jefferson doesn't appear in a game going forward.

If we play like we did yesterday we can get by TN without JJ.

Maybe he gets spot minutes if the team needs a boost, or even just to stay loose. But if the other guys are humming, then the Elite 8 is the prize.
I approve of this take. Cyclones can take UTenn with the same ball pressure and perimeter defense with which they abused Kentucky. UTenn is very turn over prone and, for all the talk about their great offensive rebounding, it hides the fact that they miss a lot of shots. Lots of missed shots is an indicator of lots of bad looks and poor offensive execution. Cyclone guards should have lots of opportunities for disruption and forced TO's. I say give JJ's ankle another 2 days of rest and recovery before UMich/Alabama.
