JJeff Injury Updates

Here I thought I just dislocated my ankle..... Never trust Dr. Google! I kinda sat there and watched my ankle at a 60 degree angle to my leg, slowly go back to its normal position. I tried to walk if off. Spent the next 10 days in the hospital.

If it's Alabama instead of Michigan, a hobbled Jefferson might hurt us more than help us. We did well in Vegas this year. Maybe we keep pushing that luck and rolling the dice. Break glass in case of emergency type thing.

I somewhat agree. However, Texas Tech was so all over the place this last 10 or so game since the big man got hurt. Not sure if it was a product of Bama being really good or Tech just slumping and having another bad night
TT just wasn't nearly as good defensively this year, and it seems like their defense fell off when they weren't shooting well.

Texas Tech was also hobbled after playing ISU in Big12 tourney. Probably similar to ISU last year, Lipsey was a shell of himself against Ole Miss.

The MRI should tell them if they can let him push through it or not. He will obviously want to play if it's just a matter of pain management, but have to make sure that there isn't structural damage.
Agree. And they ultimately want to do what is in JJ's best interest, which includes his future health. An MRI will allow them to get more information which will help with their rehab direction and timeline.

Actually, the Tech minus Toppin and ISU minus JJeff are not that different and a good comp.

Tech was much more 3pt reliant with no Toppin inside to create and do things in the paint. When hitting 3s they were still a REALLY good team.

ISU is similar- if Toure, Heise, Tamin are hitting 3s ISU is very much the same.

The difference is defense tho. ISU is gonna play that top10 defense whether shots fall or no. So they can still win without 3s, and have a higher ceiling when hitting 3s.

I want them to win of course, but I really want to see JJeff play another game (or 4) in a Cyclone uniform.

If he can't go against Tennessee not likely he will be good to go in two days for Michigan.
OR
He could go against Tenn but doesn't to make sure he can go against Meeeshigan? I think tweaking it is a real risk.

Put another way - maybe he goes into Tenn at 70% but by not playing he goes into Meeshigan at 75-80%

I am just stalling from working on a spreadsheet.

The boot and scooter makes me wonder if the coaching team is listing JJ as questionable to force the opposition to practice against that contingency. It doesn't look like a simple ankle injury. I suspect he is out for the season.

Would it help Joshua if he played the 5 position on defense? Maybe less chasing and lateral shifting that way. Rebounding might also be more box out and less chasing of loose balls.

Wearing a boot is very common with this type of injury, the scooter could be because he feels more comfortable getting around that way then walking on crutches. Or you could be correct and it could be a lot more serious than what we have been told, and the staff knows he is done for the year but does not want that info, out to force teams to prepare for him playing and then not playing.

Either way I can't see a world where he's anywhere near 100% regardless of that two extra days rest. Tweaking it is guaranteed. I've had multiple severe ankle sprains. They hurt for a year.

Nah you’re almost always immobilizing the sprain while trying to control the inflammation. People his height also tend to prefer scooters and crutches have a higher fall rate.

Nothing that has happened in this entire process has been outside the norm or outside what was obvious to predict. Depending on location and degree of the sprain he may or may not be able to give it a go and then it’s most likely about function vs making the injury worse then it is pain. The pain is the easy part to control

Assuming he is done for the season, it makes sense to keep the other teams guessing if he's going to play or not seeing as his X-rays came back negative. That way, TJ and the guys can continue to game plan without him.

Your point is moot. He’s not playing hobbled.
That said I’d put it at
75% friday
100% Sunday

But when the answer is yes/no it’s always 50/50.
Same as winning the lottery.
