So we can't question Pollard on here anymore?

Would rather bring in the right guy for the job and hey maybe that is Rodgers. Let’s all hope so. The way he was hired though doesn’t give me a ton of confidence and seems like a panic move.
Like jacket-gate when Jamie made the disastrous TJ hire.

I think Pollard is a good enough AD to always have a short list of coaches he would go after if the current coach leaves or is fired. ISU does not have enough money to be out there chasing unicorns or dream selections. So it's always going to be hiring a coach that is not currently at a P4 level and trusting that they can do the job at ISU.

Based on Rogers prior background, he’s likely the best we were getting. He also seems like a great fit being near Ames for 17 years. Could he fail? Sure, but there is a lot to like about him. He seems to have that drive. He lost 75 players last year and still went 6-6. This situation doesn’t have me in a panic.

Since the TJ hire was handled pretty much exactly the same way maybe you could take that as a lesson and just sit back, put your feet up, and see how they do before crashing out over it.

JP is obviously a smart guy but he can be an autocrat. Didn’t love the Rodgers hire TBH. He might be a good coach but JP making a unilateral decision about the most important job in the athletics department literally hours after Campbell leaves is not good leadership. Even if Rodgers is the guy I don’t see why you move that quickly. No serious business or corporation would hire without doing a formal job search. It was rash and if it doesn’t work out it’s 100% on JP.
I'll respectfully disagree with the hiring timeline, coaching limbo would have been way worse imo. Your final sentence is 100% correct and he manned up and did his job. Waste a quarter of a million dollars on a search firm and it's still a crap shoot if it works out.

One of the reasons trotted out for the quick hire was player retention and that flopped. Now everyone has switched to “we didn’t want those guys anyway!”

I have not once heard that.

Personally I don't want any guys that think they are worth tons of money. And I have been consistent with that since the whole NIL thing started.

We’ve seen Jamie make some great hires and some disastrous hires. Let’s hope it’s a great hire but I’m not sold yet. Anyway, it’s NYE and we won’t know anything until next fall. Everyone have a fun and safe night!

Ok. So the dude basically got early retirement, said “f that” and landed at Michigan. I guess some things just work out.

What about Washington State? They played their bowl game too. In that game, they were led by a coach who was leaving with their former head coach. Hypothetically the same situation, on the surface, as Iowa State.

We did not participate in a bowl, got fined half a mil and have 50 guys hitting the portal. Washington State played, had fun doing it (showered their “coach” in fries after they won) and currently have only 16 guys in the portal.

Something is “off”.
In retrospect accepting a bowl might have helped, I'm guessing Heacock (spelling?) would have coached them. Rodgers could have been at practice and interacted with pkayers.would a bunch of them still hit the portal who knows?

I'm just starting my NYE seafood cooking (crab legs, lobster tails, shrimp, scallops and seafood medley) but I'm only drinking a Mt Dew.
I made a really good Prime Rib Stroganoff tonight with leftovers from Christmas. Might have found a NYE tradition, it went over so well.

Not to change the topic, but kind of, I've been on CyFan for 15 years now, and I think the last month is officially the most toxic in the history of this site. My rankings:

1. December, 2025: Campbell, JP, and the Portal.
2. Hoiberg leaving the basketball program for the Bulls.
3. Everything Covid related.

Am I missing one? This would probably make a great polll, actually.
Ohio-ISU football in 2023 with Campbell trying to fight that fan after the game. lol
