No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

He did win a national title?

It's all a crap shoot. And maybe this guy was the best we could get. But it is annoying that a team that has had actual success and has been nationally relevant for most of 10 years hires someone no one else wanted. I hope we are paying him very little.
Jsb defending Chiz, you haven’t quit drinking it appears.

Take a deep breath and just try to be rational and think about the situations and what make sense. The hot name is not always the hot name.

So did our guy

Taking over an already settled team.

I hope he kills it when he meets whoever the hell is left on this team! I hope he can kill it on the recruiting trail! I hope he has a plan and I'm looking forward to hearing it. Campbell had a plan to win here and that included recruiting the area, money balling the whole thing, and building a culture that players didn't want to leave. Since this guy has been a head coach for a short amount of time, we don't know what his culture is like.

Team leadership not as strong as I thought. Strong leadership looks out for the next group and not pouring and only caring about themselves. Taking the bowl means time for the next team to get some practices and reps. Like I said in another, I have a feeling that the coaches were pushing this also.
ever wonder why they squeaked by Ark St and Okie St and lost to freaking Colorado?

Honestly, I didn't! A few years ago when a post was resurrected, I found my response.

I did about TJ though. So let's hope I am as wrong about this as I was.

I am confused why we all are supposed to think the last 3 days have been good for our football program.
No one is saying they were good. Many of us are just saying, what is done is done. Now let’s see what we can do to have this be a good as possible.

Think of this as your house burning down. Campbell is your house, the fire is JP or whatever caused Campbell to leave. Rogers is your new house. You aren’t going to stand in the cold and B non stop about the fire and stare at the rubble. You are going to focus on your new house to get it the best you can. You may also try to see what you can do about making sure your house doesn’t burn down again. If you think not donating anymore helps to do that, you also believe that ripping the fire alarms out of your house makes it safer for you.

It sounds like, a potential reason for the player's opt out vote, it stems from a mass exodus of players. Pure speculation and I hope I am off in the weeds.

There is no basis to your claim that nobody wanted him. Washington State fans must have wanted him, cause if he did such a bad job in year 1 they wouldn’t be mad he’s gone

Don't blame the players at all. Good decision. I wouldn't be fired up about playing without key players for a piecemeal lame duck staff in a marginal bowl game either. And many players are likely still on the fence contemplating their future.

JP should have been less emphatic about a bowl in his presser however. Should have seen this train coming.
He sometimes speaks a little to soon

All the good ones are gone, top 15ish is my guess, but we have a lot of developmental players that are a solid base from the midwest that could stay, even players like Hansen and Sama potentially.

Nobody wanted Matt Campbell. Nobody wanted T.J. Nobody wanted Dan McCarney. Nobody wanted Fred Hoiberg. As a matter of fact, the only coach that was a hot name in the media that people “wanted,” was Gene Chizik. I’ve said this many times over the last couple days, but please shut the **** up.

I am not seeing the high character from our players that we were told were a part of our culture. Honoring their commitments. Perhaps there were some reasons for our 4 game skid and inexcusable loss to Colorado. We were 5-4 after starting 5-0. Mouser and Rocco were stinking up things. IMO a Mouser hire would not be good.

Are they mad he's gone or are they mad that they have to start over? There's a difference and I haven't seen many actually mad about him specifically.

Money, Disney, the SEC and the Big 10 are destroying college football.
Its happening all over, and a symptom of the wealth gap in society that is now going exponential, historically this does not end well for anyone and brings misery to all.

This looks really bad. It is on the front of ESPN that Iowa St. turned down a bowl invite and will get fined. That looks terrible. The players should not have a vote on something so important. What is going on in Ames right now? Will this help with Iowa St. NIL donations? No. Will this help with Cyclone Fanatic patron members? No. I think Cyclone Nation was all motivated to see what bowl we would end up in this afternoon after the great 3 win finish. Bad!

Thanks Campbell.
Thanks Pollard.
Thanks Josh Pate.
Thanks soon to be transferring players.
Community my ###. It’s a business right. Fine. Rather than continue to throw good money after bad, maybe we should just spare ourselves. After all we obviously “can’t compete with top programs”.

Disgusted with everyone involved in this sick sorry mess. Don’t believe a word coming out of any of these people’s mouths.

A lot of other programs wanted Chizik when we got him. He was a very hot commodity. That was a fabulous hire wasn’t it?
Hot take: Chizik would've had us in a bowl game in 2009 and had some further success. No way he would've stuck around long though.
