I would guess it’s not “let’s regroup for next year”, but more likely “we’re all leaving”. Hope I’m wrong
No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

I think it was more important than ever we try to have a bowl game to be honest.
Understood. But you don’t play the game to win, you just treat it like a practice. Yeah the plays and schemes may be simple, but it’s about getting ready for the future.
The problem is that Campbell is leaving no staff to lead the team in the bowl game. Unfair to the new guy to get coaches and system and players ready in a couple weeks. Fanbase had Bowl Game in Ireland. Campbell is gutting Iowa State. Campbell could have directed the rest of his staff coach the team in the Bowl with Heacock as HC. He didn’t.
That’s my question; do the players even want to play after the last 72 hours. On top of that, are enough of them even staying?
Hell, the new guy could watch our practices.
This does not bode well for how the new guy has been perceived. I know they haven't met him, but people aren't willing to listen.
Yeah all the players are done. Like they said above, they would not have enough healthy players to safely play the bowl game. That is a LARGE amount of people checked out.

Not a surprise. Coaching changes suck. Kind of the way of the world right now. I don’t fault the players.

If no or very few players were willing to play in a bowl game, it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't no-win situation for anyone.
I know this probably sounds incredibly naive, but there appears to be absolutely no loyalty whatsoever to the school, community, football program as a whole, or each other. Man, this new day of college athletics is worse than I even imagined.
I think bowl prep is often treated as kind of another off-season camp to get players more reps in the system, etc. and I'd imagine it's quite a scramble to do that if/when at least half the team is gone and they don't have a system to even play into for next year.
What other signs do you need. It's flashing red in your face the last 36 hours
Disappointing but not really surprising now that I think on it. Even players that might be willing to come back but need time to think on it more might not want to put all their cards in one basket. I just hope we haven't seen the last of some of these players in an ISU uniform. That'd suck but seems likely for some.
