Fixing NFL OT

Only change I’d have would be to play 2 halves with a 5 minute clock each in OT. I don’t like that a team can control the entire 10:00 clock and give the other little to no time to respond.

I don't understand why the NFL has never figured it out. High school and college have it figured out. I hate tie games. I am a Packer fan and was mad nobody won. Watching a whole game to at the end say "Welp they are both just as good as each other" just rubs me the wrong way.

I think the current NFL model is fine, just get rid of the damn game clock. I do think that if you take the possibility of a tie out of the equation it will completely change how teams attack, especially after both teams have had a possession.
I could get on board with no game clock and equal possessions till someone wins. Also, get rid of the big delay between regulation and OT. Flip the damn coin and GO. But anything else that differs from how you've played the game for 60 minutes, like college OT, I don't like.

Shootout of two-point conversions.

Best of three attempts.

Still tied…?

One attempt each until decided.

Decide it on goal line offense/defense.

This is the way, if you have to have a winner then just keep playing the game as is until someone fails to match the other team. Unless it's a win and you're done game though in the playoffs I don't think it matters if there's a tie.

Sudden goddam Death

All this fluffy start at the 35 or everybody gets a try....bull ****.

Win the game in 60 minutes or take your chances

I don't think that's the case anymore. This season they are using the playoff OT rules with the exception being a 10-minute clock, I believe.
You are correct. A TD does not automatically win the game. My bad. But my response to the other poster stands. They aren't racing to kick a FG like before.

I'm actually shocked at how many people are ok with ties. I don't know anyone who is and I'm not hearing anyone on sports radio today who is.
My immediate reaction is who gives a ****? Do people actually get worked up because the game ended in a tie? Do you have to be unemployed to care about stuff like that?

Part of it is that you’re more likely to make comment/call in if you’re upset about something. And it happens rarely enough that it doesn’t come up all that much

Also, it sometimes feels like the anti-tie argument can fall into “ties are unmanly and un-American” arguments which why subject yourself to that?

I became big soccer fan when I studied abroad and living in the middle of it…regular season ties are no big deal. I’m old enough to remember when cfb had ties and it was no big deal. I prefer college OT but if people wanted ties I wouldn’t really care.

The thing about ties I’d hate in current era is you know CFP would treat any ND tie like a win and any Big 12 tie like a loss.
