Friday OT #1 - I Had Some Time Alone

What all is different about your day-to-day routine right now? Are you wearing different clothes (like, I have only changed from one pair of pajama pants to another all week)? Are you working or learning in a different place? Are you doing anything different to remember this COVID-19 outbreak time?

I feel like this is one of those 9/11, JFK assassination, Challenger explosion types of moments - 25 years from now, teachers are going to be having kids ask adults where they were during this time when the whole world is basically stopped. (For most, the answer is, "at home.") I am working from home one week, in office the next, and alternating - but I'm keeping a journal on a Google Doc so that I can give it to my grandkids one day to take to school.

What are you all doing?

Reddit /r/CollegeBasketball Simulated College Hoops 2K8 Tournament

Reddit's /r/CollegeBasketball subreddit is simulating the entire tournament on Collge Hoops 2K8 (2K8 is used so they could create teams that weren't in the game).

They released the bracket and used the regular season champion as the auto-bid then used BracketMatrix to seed them.

Full Bracket here:

GREATEST MBB GAMES BRACKET

We want your help in choosing the greatest Iowa State men's basketball game of the last 40 years (or basically since Johnny Orr got to Ames). The bracket has 64 games chosen and seeded by our selection committee (aka @khaal53).

The bracket regions will be released in this order:

Thursday - Niang Regional (2010s)
Friday - Grayer Regional (1980s)
Monday - Fizer Regional (2000s)
Tuesday - Hoiberg Regional (1990s)

Details on how to vote, how long voting will last for each round, etc. will be included in the article on Monday and the first round of voting will open Tuesday morning when I put out the fourth article. We'll be doing re-watchable podcasts for some of the games as well so if you have any specific selections then let us know and we'll do it, assuming the full game is on YouTube, which many of them are.

Hope you guys enjoy this. Figured we might as well relive some happy memories during these not so happy times.

Banking/loan question

I posted this in the refinance thread but wanted to get some advice. We're trying to get a construction loan to finance a renovation on a house that we got through an estate. The one bank that isn't totally overwhelmed right now are saying we can't get a construction loan because we already bought the house. How do people finance major renovations if they can't get construction loans?

Sump Pump Noise

Up until last night we would hear our sump pump removing water from the pit but that was about all. Then, it seemed like out of nowhere, we would hear it run and then end with either a thud or a clanking noise. It seems to be running just fine.

We moved in last year in May so we never really heard it 'start up' for the Spring, but I wanted to ask if anyone knew what this could be or if anyone else experienced this.

Any information would be appreciated.

Prohm?

I have been a Prohm supporter since he has arrived in Ames. However with the amount of money he is making my expectations are that the basketball program would have more stability than what it is showing.

The concerning part for me is does he have the ability to make connections with the players he is coaching? Does anyone else have the same concerns?

Favorite Cyclone Football Memory?

In an attempt to bring up some positive news. What's everyone's favorite cyclone football memory or experience?

Top 3 currently are

1. 2017 TCU game, I know it wasn't a sell out but the tailgating / atmosphere that game was awesome.

2. Alamo Bowl Trip, the Cyclone take over at the River Walk, The pep rallys with massive crowds was awesome.I know the game wasn't the outcome we wanted but overall still a fantastic trip.

3. 2011 Oklahoma State game, just watching the fans not give up hope after going down early then on side kick was still such a crazy call. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Lets blow this thread up with some positive memories!

MLB: For Cub Fans

I didn’t see a thread related to this yet, so my apologies if it has already been discussed, but I stumbled on a new channel the other day. Marquee Sports Network (channel 664 on DirecTV. Sorrry...don’t know the option for cord cutters, but do think there is an option on YouTubeTV).

It has been showing classic Cubs games, and it’s awesome. Watched the 1979 23-22 game against the Phillies the other day. Sosa hitting 61 and 62. 2016 NLDS game (Baez homer in the bottom of the 8th to win 1-0; great pitchers dual between Lester and Cueto).

Kerry Wood’s 20 K game is on Friday at 6:00.

It’s awesome for the Cub fans out there (and I know there are a lot on this board).

Just curious how many people are actually working remotely and how many are just doing their own thing. Its an anonymous poll. No shaming, I just see lots of people talking about honey-do lists, gaming, streaming, etc.

I personally am working from home, as our office is on mandatory telecommuting for everyone to the extent possible, with distancing measures for anyone that must be onsite (alternate shifts, more sure desks are 6+ feet apart, etc). I am basically a data analyst, so as long as I have my laptop and a VPN I can work anywhere.
