There's going to be a new street built in empty lot next to mine and got a letter yesterday for appraisal of small section that the city needs to buy. The plan also includes a construction easement that would cover some of my (asphalt) driveway and lawn.

My question is is there typically some payment made to homeowner in this situation? Also is there some type of agreement in advance to cover any potential damages? I can easily see my driveway getting damaged in this process. Any thoughts or past experiences would be appreciated.

What kind of collections do you have now, or have you had in the past? How did you begin the collection? Do you share the hobby with someone special?

I have a small record collection, as I've lost several over the years, they've accidentally thrown out, etc. So I keep starting over.

Less intentionally, and to my great amusement, I've sort of had a Willow Tree figurine collection thrust upon me. They're the little doll things that are carved out of wood and none of them have faces, largely white-ish grey clothing. I've never bought one or asked for one, but there is something about me that must give off the air that I enjoy them, because I've been given approximately 12 of them as presents over the years (usually for important occasions). I keep and appreciate them due to the personal reasons that people have given them to me.

I am an electrical dunce. however, due to insufficient funds i've decided to do all the wiring in my renovation. Thought i was all set to go but then i had a short and can't seem to figure it out.

5 lights are run in sequence with a 3 way switch at either end. Power source comes into the light first. I followed this diagram. I wired everything up except the ground wires to do a test run. turned on the breaker and everything was good. all switches worked as they were supposed to.

flipped off the breaker, twisted all the grounds together and this trips the breaker. somehow a ground has become hot?. if i touch the ground from the power source to a ground from C3 or C4 it trips the breaker. what am i missing here?

If you have the answer, speak to me like a child because as mentioned, i am an electrical dunce.

Lots of stories about "hazing" and the military. I know a Marine buddy who was recon who went through his "pinning" process where they punched his "wings? anchors? - marine equivalent of jump wings? into his chest and into his flesh. Another common story and "confirmed" by another acquaintance is the ranger tradition during swamp training of biting the heads off of snakes. Had another naval buddy on subs and they had an elaborate ritual for the minnows (I think that's the term?) who had never crossed the equator. Something along the lines of a crusty old chief with grapes in his belly button which you had to take with your mouth after crawling through bilge.

I was USAF and our hazing was simply chasing you down and dumping all remaining beverages (coffee, gatorade, water in big igloo coolers) on you and your gear on first flights and last flights. Kinda fun - especially when you fly out of Eielson AFB in Alaska in January when the temps are -30 and you're in a very cold pit on a very dark and cold runway.... It's WAY more fun to make them work for it (serpentine, Shel! Serpintine!)

I'm personally a big fan of these activities (absent the broom handles and true atrocities) but curious about others first-hand experiences of memorializing something special during your military careers...

I'll throw a new twist on an old theme with a different hypothetical than most pose for our future.

Let's say things DO actually pan out for Coach Prohm. Next year, Harris is eligible and learns the PG ways from a great PG coach, Bolton takes a huge next step, JCL thrives in the Hilton Magic environment, Johnson/Dubar/Blackwell/Foster provide a solid and diverse 4 for the team and Solo/Conditt/Foster provide a deep and talented 5. Our increased athleticism improves our defense. We make the NCAA tournament and generate a little buzz before losing in the second round.

That momentum helps us in recruiting, and we are top half of the Big 12 for quite some time.

After a decade or so, Coach Prohm hires a former Cyclone legend as an assistant. That assistant gains coaching experience for a few years, and then Coach Prohm either retires or moves on. We hire that assistant as our next coach.

Which Cyclone legend would you want as your next coach in that scenario?

I gotta say, I disagree with Stanz's inclusion of Chase Allen on that list. I'm a huge Chase Allen fan, but I think you ignored your own selection process when you said you were going by production and depth at the position. TE is one of the deepest positions on the team and Campbell himself has said the most talented one, Easton Dean, hasn't even played yet.

I think one of the reasons (certainly not the only one) Allen is a perennial all-Big 12 selection is because who else are they gonna pick? There has been a lack not of talent, but of depth at the TE position over the last several years in the Big 12. When you get down to third team, 4th team (in some polls) and honorable mention, there is practically nobody left to choose.

If it was my list, I'd have put an interior defensive lineman on it, not because of past production, but because of a lack of depth there. Whoever wins spots in that rotation (Tucker Robertson and Latrell Bankston would be my guess), it would take one injury and we're left with the prospect of playing Joshua Bailey, who has played only in spot situations with very little production as a redshirt senior, or Isaiah Lee, who has played in 3 games for his career as a redshirt sophomore, or a true freshman Willis Singleton, or a walkon, or moving an undersized (for a DT) Eni into the middle. The thought of the interior line is frightening enough without an injury because we're relying on a group with very little experience, other than Robertson, and his playing time was limited last year, too, because of who played ahead of him.

I don't know, that's my opinion. Tell me what you think.

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

Went to school '86 - '90. During that time, there was a character on campus that called himself the Cyclone Ranger. He would randomly show up at football and basketball games, dressed with a cape and mask. The fans went crazy. But, that's not all he did! He would also do random acts of kindness around campus. I recall one time, he placed roses on a lot of administrator assistant's desks over the weekend. I think there may have been a note of gratitude signed "The Cyclone Ranger."

Anyone else remember this? Any stories you may have?

It wouldn't have surprised me to hear of a black bear being spotted in northeast Iowa. But to see one roaming that far south is a little shocking.

The hypothesis of locality has been tested very well in ordinary settings, and it may seem natural to assume that it extends to the very short distances that are relevant for quantum gravity (these distances are small because gravity is so much weaker than the other forces). To confirm that locality persists at those distance scales, we need to build an apparatus capable of testing the independence of degrees of freedom separated by such small distances. A simple calculation shows, however, that an apparatus that’s heavy enough to avoid large quantum fluctuations in its position, which would ruin the experiment, will also necessarily be heavy enough to collapse into a black hole! Therefore, experiments confirming locality at this scale are not possible. And quantum gravity therefore has no need to respect locality at such length scales.

I was visiting a relatives house today and discovered a signed photo of Jim Walden. I am a somewhat younger Cyclone who grew up playing on the hillsides pretending to be Troy. So, I was a bit young to have any first hand memories or knowledge of the Walden Era. I do have some second hand knowledge of him but would like to become more educated on this time of Cyclone Football. I thoroughly realize that this was not a good era by any stretch and I have heard that he was far from a great coach like the one we have now. But I know that if I ask this question on here, I will likely get a wealth of information on Mr. Walden. TIA

Football player. I can’t figure out why they didn’t change direction. Ozarks is not a place for novice boaters during a weekend. I’m guessing the driver didn’t realize that jets skis don’t turn unless you are giving them power.
