Bill Snyder on the 1993 Iowa State game

Excerpt from his book My Football Life:

Our team moved to No. 18 in that national rankings as we prepared for our next game at Iowa State. I came down with pneumonia a few days before we visited Iowa State, but I kept coaching. We led Iowa State 17-6 in the third quarter when a streaker ran onto the football field. For some reason, that incident seemed to change the entire game. How distracting was it? I don't know. But we gave up three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 27-23 loss, and I felt we were so much better than that Iowa State team. That was as disappointing of a loss as any. It was a very disheartening loss and very painful.

I love Iowa State.

RIP Peter Greene

I meant to post this a few days ago and forgot. Character actor Peter Greene died. One of those actors where you have that moment when a movie’s on and you go, “Oh. That guy.”

Unforgettable as Zed in Pulp Fiction. Unhinged menace in The Mask. Another chilling villain in the suspense/action movie Judgment Night. That unsettling presence directors used when they needed danger without explanation.

Pulp Fiction
Usual Suspects (uncredited)

That was a solid four film streak, but he really didn't do much known stuff since then.

AI Fails

Wasn't sure where else to post this, but I found this AI summary fail from Google utterly perplexing. I googled the upcoming Iowa State women's game, and the AI summary told me that Iowa State had a dominant win on December 21, 2025. I did like three double-takes looking at the calendar trying to figure out what I was looking at. I hate that companies keep shoving this into products when it doesn't even ******* work.

By the Numbers - Offence

Let's see how our offence is doing so far. Numbers are from Torvik

1. Effective FG %- On track to be our highest FG% even if we fall a bit in conference play.

Offence Effective FG.png
Offence Effective FG Rank.png

2. Turnover Rate- If this trend continues, we will be at a 5-year low on turnover percentage

3. Offensive Rebound rate- Looking better than last year and potentially a 5 year high
Off Reb Rate.png

4. FT Rate- Currently on trend to be highest or close to highest at getting to the line.

5. Tempo- Not really a measure of success, but interesting to look at. We are looking at a 5 year high in number of possessions.

Summary- Really impressive numbers. Keep in mind this is comparing nonconference play to full year stats.

By the Numbers-Defense

Is ISU’s defense better? I am using Torvik for the source of most of these stats.

1. Effective Field Goal % Defense
a. This year will be a 5-year low in opponents FG %
Effective FG.png
Effective FG Rank.png

2. Forced Turnover Rate
a. This year would be a 5-year high in forced turnover percentage

3. Opp. Off. Rebound Rate
a. We are having an uptick in Opp. off Rebounding rate.
Off Reb Rate.png
Off Reb Rate rank.png

4. Opp. FT Rate
a. We are fouling more witch I would equate to a higher-pressure defense.
Opp. FT Rate.png

Opp. FT Rate Rank.png

Summary: While still not an elite defensive team, we are making strides in some areas to be pretty good. Our ball pressure is resulting in a lower opponent fg% and a higher forced turnover rate. Of course, these stats for this year contain many cupcakes so we will have to see how this all shakes out, but I see promising trends.

On That Note: 'Til I Die (Late Musicians 2025)

As we approach the conclusion of another year, we want to pay tribute to notable music artists who died in 2025.

In addition to performers, you may include songwriters, producers, promoters and anyone who had impact in the music industry, or whose work has special meaning for you.

Repeated references to an artist are allowed, but try not to duplicate a track someone already posted.

No limit to # of songs from a specific musician, although we suggest no "hoarding." Post a top choice, then give others a chance.

You may use songs with the person solo or as member of a group, but we prefer it was recorded/performed when they were an active member. Exceptions may apply. Also acceptable: member of duets, soundtracks, et. al.

A couple of links for reference:

“On That Note” is presented each week on Cyclone Fanatic by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.

Thread title is based on Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys, this one is a sort of "positive balance."

27 pay periods

My former employer would just keep our paychecks the same for all 27 pay periods, which was a nice bonus that few people appreciated. My latest company has been sending out messages warning us that our paycheck amounts will go down because our salary is being split between 27 instead of 26 paychecks. How is your employer handling this?

Rocco spring practice ?

Anyone know the recovery time from a torn labrium surgery? Will Rocco be available for spring practice, whether it's at psu or ISU? If very limited, how do you think it affects his decision, stay and miss installation of a new offense, or transfer to psu to a somewhat similar system in a totally new environment?
