RIP David Johansen - New York Dolls

Fairly obscure band in the 70s but without David Johansen and the New York Dolls we'd have never had The Smiths and many other iconic bands.

RIP and thank you.

Any gas fireplace experts?

I just replaced the thermocouple in a Heatilator gas fireplace because the pilot light wouldn't stay lit. That fixed that problem, but when I tested it out before putting the log set back in, I'm getting this gigantic orange flame coming from where the gas enters the burner. I cleaned out the little ports in the burner and messed with the air shutter a little, but nothing seems to make this go away. No bueno.

Any ideas?

2025 NFL Combine tracker

Cyclones at the NFL Combine: Our running tracker of which teams have met with former Cyclones, things they've said to media members, measurement numbers and more as they come in.

Low Heart Rate

So.. had a recent health scare and basically turns out I have a really low resting heart rate (around 45 on average and into the 30's at night) -53 yr old in good shape, but not ultra-marathoner shape or anything. Previous physicals hadn't really had it show up (walking in maybe elevated it enough or something). Now it's more anxiety than anything after Iowa Heart found nothing really wrong (was admitted because apparently was dehydrated and fainted while doing a middle of the night bathroom run) and it helps to hear that this is more normal than I think to have a really low resting heart rate! :)

Friday OT - Pack Rats

I have a couple trips planned for the year and I've come to realize that my wife and I have vastly different packing goals.

She'll make a list far in advance. She'll pack a pharmacy. She'll pack at least 1.5X more clothes than needed most times. She'd pack our mattress if she could.

I'll usually pack at the last minute and have the mindset that I can get something wherever we go if I forget something.

What's your packing vibe? Does it correlate with your significant other or is there a noticeable contrast in approaches?

What songs do you want played at your funeral?

Not to be too grim or anything, but I am the type of person who plans major life events years or even decades in advance. I'm weird like that.

Most funerals have two or three songs played during the ceremony, and these are mine:

Tuomas Holopainen(Nighwish's keyboardist) wrote this song for his grandfather shortly after he passed away.

I want this played because I just love it, and to kind of mess with people. They would be like WTF?! My idea is don't be sad I'm gone. Live it the f*** up and f***ing party celebrating my life.

Though I do prefer the Eurobeat version myself (sadly, no screaming lyrics):

As for the third song, I haven't decided yet, but I definitely want Schala/Kid's final dairy entry at the end of this video (3:03 mark) quoted at my funeral. I don't remember it from when I played Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross back to back back in August 2002 (I just remember Kid looking over the beach after the final credits rolled), but my God does it make me bawl like a baby every time I read it back with the third verse of Radical Dreamers playing.

Like I said, this may be a bit of a grim post, but it popped in my head tonight while listening to music, and was just curious if there are any other weirdos like me "making plans" like this.
