Former Iowa State men’s basketball player and All-American hurdler Ray Wehde died on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at the age of 102. A celebration of his life will take place on March 7.

The Holstein native led the Cyclones in scoring three times: 1942-43 (7.8 points per game), 1946-47 (8.3 ppg) and 1947-48 (9.0 ppg). With his twin brother, Roy, the Wehdes led the Cyclones to a 14-4 record which culminated in the 1944 NCAA Final Four.

True.

I'm guessing he was final living member of the team?

Interesting the Wehdes hailed from Holstein, 6 miles from my childhood home, seems like I would've known about that at some point.
His obituary shares that his twin brother Roy still lives down in Tempe, Arizona.

I last heard from Roy in March 2024, we had a nice interview about his entire life story, I hope it finds you well.

It was fun writing a story about someone from Holstein, as my grandmother died there in April 2024 and I have several family members in Ida Grove.
