Gymnastics: Iowa State's meet against West Virginia scheduled for tomorrow, Feb 6, has been canceled

Team has looked horrendously unprepared. Putting up scores d3 athletes would get. Had a scary fall Sunday and no one to fill in even with a full roster
Yep I watch many of their meets and this has been the worst season I can recall of just sheer talent/falls/scores. Like you mentioned, BAD scores and tons of falls. They're not even remotely competing with teams that what you would consider average.

Isn't she a nearly brand new coach? Possibly a bad hire? How are there not enough athletes?
This is her third season as our HC....I believe it's her first time being a HC. Seemed promising at first but last year was a disappointment and this year there has been a steep drop off in their scoring.

Not sure if it's evaluation of talent, poor coaching, or perhaps it's a combination of both.

Iowa State while not dominant, was a pretty steady NCAA tournament team and they won't even come close to that this year and they missed the tournament last year.

It’s both. We have probably 2 gymnasts who are B12 caliber. Losing two good assistants and replacing with 3 inexperienced ones.

No idea how many years are left on her contract but likely need to make a move this offseason. Every season has gotten worse with a huge nosedive this year with a roster that is 100% her recruits

We haven't been to a meet yet this year, although I try to follow along on the team's X account. We've been noticing some low scores that probably mean at least one fall, but also saw something indicating someone was hurt. @CycloneT - what do you know about that?

They had 13 girls compete in at least 1 event against Denver, need 6 at each rotation. That is alot of injured/sick girls since 2/1.

Is it a massive illness or are you guys saying we do not have enough quality gymnastics to compete against WV.

They've counted multiple falls every meet. The really bad fall, our only AA and best gymnast landed on her head and neck. Had to be carried off

Not every gymnast is capable of doing every event. You need 24 routines. IMO the roster recruited is very bad and not Big 12 caliber

Why was Ronayne let go? Seemed like he had enough moderate success to be acceptable for our olympic sports but I admit I didn’t follow super closely

Never should have let KJ Kindler walk out the door…and before anyone says it was about money, it wasn’t!! Spoke to KJ about it a few years later! This was as bad of a whiff as Sanderson leaving…two alums that have won multiple national championships!! Ronayne was a terrible hire. Kept him way too long, the new coach has good pedigree as an athlete but has never been an HC. We shall see what all develops.

KJ may have stayed for a little while longer, but no way would she still be here now with the practice gym at Beyer Hall. It’s a very sub-par facility for a program in a major conference. Makes recruiting very difficult.

Again, all she asked was for an upgrade in facilities, not a state of the art training place. It wasnt too big of an ask, we trained at PEB my time there and it was decent, better then Beyer!

Watching the meet against Utah was an eye opener on the difference in level of competition. I specifically couldn't get over how elementary our floor routines looked compared to Utah's. Can't tell if it's coaching, talent limitations, or a combination of both.
