Wrestling Content Update!

Hi everyone! I shared this on Twitter, but I wanted to share it here too!

This is a heads up that I will have some wrestling content for all of you this week. I had promised it last week and then hadn't circled back on it. Full transparency why I haven't put anything out: the day after I got back from NCAA's **** kind of hit the fan for me. We discovered my mom had an infection and ended up doing a few days in the hospital, and I had to help take care of my siblings. It's been a bit of a hot mess trying to balance all the things, and wrestling has slipped a bit through the cracks. Not the transfer portal though! I've made sure to stay on top of transfer moves happening and made sure to be in contact with the right people. I had a nice, quick check-in with Dresser last week too. So please know that I know how important the transfer portal stuff is to all of the fans.

I know I don't always have to give ya'll life updates, but I wanted to share because the work is important, and I promised it! It's important to me, but it's just really hard to sit and finish writing sometimes when everything else is on fire lol. Thanks for always being supportive and consuming the wrestling content! I'm excited to share it.

I will have a lineup/transfer portal column tonight. I'll have two feature stories later this week. One of them is on The Frost Brothers and I've been legit working on this all season! I'm excited to put it out there. Plus, I think you'll like the second feature as well.

A side note: I have reached out to Mike with our CF Shop about the Frost Brother tees. As soon as I have an update, I will let you all know! I have been in contact with Stacey Frost and she sent over all the information I would need to make these happen from a design standpoint. I just need to get the backend stuff figured out with the shop. Thanks to those who reached out about this and those who made sure to share the NIL tee opportunity with Stacey at the social in Philly. I'm excited to do this for them!

Let’s Get Creative: all Iowa State never was, but what if team

Who’s your starting 5 Iowa State prospects or bench players that you thought were the next Fred, Dedric, or Jamaal but never got the chance or you never shifted your expectations and struggled to accept reality.

Maybe they went on to play somewhere else, maybe they never wore an ISU uniform, or maybe they stepped away from the game and got into anime.

But you were convinced they were the missing piece when the crystal ball pointed to ISU or they announced they were committing.

While portal season is exciting, I want to talk about the freshmen. It is hard these days it seems for freshmen to make an impact; under TJ its pretty much been Tamin and Milan. However, I do like the potential of these guys. Batemon is the highest rated and by all accounts can shoot the **** out of the ball. Toure is more under the radar, but a lot of people seem to think he may be the best of our recruits. Mitchell was the Wisconsin Gatorade player of the year. Pleta is not technically a freshman, but I included him as well. We'll see how his game translates.

How did you pick your allegiances?

Does anybody support all the teams from one city? Or is it more typical for Iowans to be like me and kind of be all over the place?

My family wasn’t particularly into sports.

For the NFL, I picked the Packers because I lived in northeast Iowa and it was the Brett Favre Super Bowl years when I started paying attention. I suppose I could have just as easily picked the Vikings or Bears. A lot of classmates were Cowboys fans too, especially with it being the mid to late 90s. The Chiefs were kind of far away.

For college, we moved to central Iowa during Eustachy’s Big 12 championship runs. I didn’t really pay attention to college sports before that other than seeing if my pop bottle cap matched the NCAA tournament winner. I had some family that supported the Hawkeyes and I even had a couple pieces of Iowa clothing as a kid but never thought much of it. A friend in northeast Iowa liked “the other one” and that was about all I really knew of Iowa State before moving to central Iowa. I started with Iowa State basketball and then picked up on football. Thankfully Mac was starting to take us to bowl games.

For MLB, I picked the Yankees first because an older cousin liked them and always wore a Yankees hat. Then I picked the Cubs as my local/National League team.

For the NBA, I picked the Bulls because of Michael Jordan but didn’t really follow them. Then I liked the Lakers because they were good. Finally, I kind of picked the Pacers after they picked Tinsley. I quit caring for several years and starting paying attention again when they got Haliburton.

For the NHL, I picked the Avalanche, but I never really watched much. I moved to Washington state as an adult and the closest team was the Canucks, so I kind of followed their scores. Then we got the Kraken and they became my team.

Living in Washington state as an adult added the Seatte pro teams and local colleges to my fandom.

Yes, I’m shooting the crap with a long post including personal details you probably don’t care about. Go easy on me.

EDIT: THIS IS FOR THE WBB TEAM. Probably should have not posted this after last night's MBB loss.

Now that we've had some time to cool off from the end of the season. How would you rate it? I left off +/- but feel free to comment with those included.

Preconference: C-

Pretty disappointing, but not disastrous.

I'll admit I was one who was foolish and bought the preseason hype. Audi, Addy, and Emily back with transfers who should shore up our 3 pt shooting. Me Gusta.

Losing to UNI and Iowa hurt. We had decent leads in each of those games and blew it. Losing to SCAR and UCONN was expected, but man they blew any idea that this team should be ranked out of the water.

The wins against Drake and MTSU saved this section of the season from being a D or F.

Conference: B-

Underwhelmed, but performed when expected.

We won every game we should have and lost every game we should have. Barring one exception KSU. The inability to "punch up" made our getting into the tournament a big question mark until the KSU win. One more loss and we probably would have missed the tournament.

Gave this a B- as opposed to a B because the team regressed from winning against the odds and some of the losses were not great showings.

Postseason: B

Satisfied, performed to my expectations.

As a repeat to the last section, we won every game we should have and lost every game we should have. The ladies had good/great performances against ASU and Princeton and made the games against Baylor and Michigan toss ups.

Wished for more but got what I expected.

Overall Season rating: B-

I can't help that the preseason expectations have colored my perception on this entire season and is the reason I have to give it a B-. Picked 2nd in the XII to fall to 7th, and from top 10 to PIG was disappointing. A 23-12 season is a pretty good record and is our 3rd (or 4th depending on if you want to count by win% or total wins) best season in the last 10 years.

Friday OT - Am I the A-Hole?

My in-laws grew up in and around Town A. My wife was raised either in town or just on the outskirts. My MIL worked right in town her entire career.

When my wife was in college, they moved to an acreage about 10 miles out of town, where they still live. This acreage’s 911 address is in Town B, where they didn’t work.

After making the move, my MIL kept a PO Box in Town A, and had everything shipped there. Now that she’s retired, she doesn’t go to town everyday so it’s less convenient to have the PO box. My MIL is convinced because her physical address is in Town B, but the PO Box is in Town, if she puts her address down for delivery, things won’t get delivered to her actual address.

My wife and I live 45 miles away, but my wife works in Town A. My in-laws now have all of their parcel packages delivered to OUR house. My wife throws them in her car, and my MIL drives into Town A to get them from my wife’s car.

I personally think this is absolutely certifiably insane. Once when we were on vacation in the winter, one of their packages was delivered to our house with freezable contents. I had to call a buddy to come by and drag it into our garage. On a Saturday. It just creates another layer of things for my wife to take care of that she doesn’t need. To me, this is pointless and crazy.

There’s no god damn way that the various delivery services won’t go to their house. They live directly on a large Federal Highway (US 63).

I want to order a package and have it delivered to their home, just to demonstrate that it’s possible. My wife got pissed and said I was only doing it to a prove a point and shame her parents for their irrational behavior (she acknowledges to me that this is insane). At this point I just really want to know if there IS some crazy reason that packages don’t get delivered there. There’s a slight chance my MIL is right, and I legitimately don’t want to judge her behavior as neurotic if it isn’t.

I’ve decided to order them a gift online and have it shipped. I’ll do it so they’re the recipient, and it’s anonymous. When they get it, I guarantee they will say something to my wife about the anonymous gift they got out of the blue. Since my name won’t be attached, they won’t know it’s me, and won’t assume I’m trying to make fun of them. I will know whether this whole crazy thing is legitimate. Theoretically everyone should win. But my wife will know it’s me, and she’ll be pissed off as all hell.

Am I an ******* for wanting to get to the bottom of this once and for all?

RECRUITING: New portal commit Mason Williams on his choice, injuries & more

RECRUITING: New Iowa State transfer portal commit Mason Williams (@therealmason11) joined @cfchangs9 to talk playing through injuries & developing at Iowa State.

“I’m ready to join a winning program. It’s all about winning – by any means possible.”

Will JUCO's ever become a feeder program?

Now with the NCAA deciding JUCO players get 4 years of D1 eligibility I was thinking for some guys like JT rock would it not make more sense to direct them to go to an Indian Hills and play for two years to develop skillsets? I know in the past players that didn't meet academic requirements would be encouraged to go for JUCO for a year and be recruited after, so there is certainly a precedent.

There's an argument that players benefit from getting in our program early and maybe redshirting but now with the ruling they would maintain 4 years of eligibility and we wouldn't have to use a scholarship on a guy that wont be productive. I could see Iowa State pushing some tweener freshman this direction and working with some of our good JUCO programs around the state.

The transfer rules really made an impact to JUCO recruiting but I could see this changing things in the future.
