Baylor opened with and exhibition game against Southwest Baptist out of Bolivar MO. Caught my interest because I live there now and have season tickets to SBU basketball. SBU picked up a 6’6” transfer this year. This from the Baylor write-up of last nights game:

Southwest Baptist was led by Emma Perry with nine points. After scoring four points early, 6-6 center Victoria Hamilton got into foul trouble and finished with just six points and three boards.
"Their big kid got in foul trouble, which helped," Collen said. "Early on, I thought we were driving and trying to avoid contact with (Hamilton), so we were missing layups. If you go in and attack the rim the same way you would a 5-10 player rotating, you're going to put foul pressure on her. Worst-case scenario, she's going to block it. . . . But when you try to lean around her and stretch, you're blocking your own shot."

We're officially back to 50% on the season, 4-4 against the spread with the majority pick. Vegas is still happy to take the juice from us at this point.

With the Big 12 already being incredibly tough top-to-bottom, does adding another elite program excite you or cause you concern about making things that much more difficult? Would you rather have more “easier” wins in basketball or football… or have a stronger, deeper conference? Is there a point where you are satisfied with the strength and depth or are you all in for the best matchups possible?

Probably one of my favorite stories I've gotten to write. Iowa State football and motorsports - my two favorite things - coming together here. Hope you guys like it.

Whoo, this season is starting out with a bang against #7(Matscouts) Wisconsin. Here is how I see it shaking out.

125 Barnett dec Terukina. Barnett has continually gotten better and is Seth Gross primary workout partner. This will be a very tough match for Terukina. 3-0 WI
133 Lamont dec Redding. I ythink this a toss up, but leaning with Lamont as a precious AA. 6-0 WI
141 - Swiderski dec Zargo. I think with an early weigh in, Swiderski will have plenty of time to recover for this match so I expect a much better version than we saw in wrestle offs. ISU needs this match. 6-3 WI
149 - Gomez maj Johnson. This could be 6 as we know how dangerous Gomez is. Hope we can keep off our back. 10-3 WI
157 - Model dec Kraisser. This is a great opportunity for Kraisser. I think he is an NQ level guy, but Model a little more proven. 13-3 WI.
165 - Carr dec Hamiti. Going to be fireworks! Both guys are quick, athletic, and like to mix it up. I think Hamiti keeps it close, but Carr holds on to win. 13-6 WI
174 - Broderson dec Otto. Solid controlling win here. 13-9 WI.
184 - Coleman maj Dow. This match should not be close and I expect Coleman to pick up right where he left off and dominate. 13-13
197 Bastida dec Amos. Amos is solid and tough. It was a 3-2 match at NCAA last year. I expect a close match again, but Bastida gets the TD and the win. 16-13 ISU.
Hvy Hillger dec Schuyler. Hillger is just too proven. 16-16.

Key matches:
33 can ISU pull the upset.
41 first real test for Swiderski.
49 can we limit bonus.
65 of course

Lot of good matches for the team this weekend. Table goes Iowa State/Arkansas Little Rock/Campbell/Wisconsin. Rankings per Intermat, not ranked guys pulled from Wrestlestat.

Looks like a good chance we will finally get one next to the new Recplex on Grand in West Des Moines. Over twice the size of the Great Wolf Lodge in KC plus hotel, entertainment and conference center. This and the new Top Golf will be a big boost for businesses in the Jordan Creek area.

I just looked and am surprised our game is on ESPN+ this weekend. Looking further up, I am even more surprised Baylor at Oklahoma is on ESPN+, so they can feature the hot UCF at Memphis game on ESPN2.

Since the season is kicking off this week I thought I'd start a new thread for general NCAA women's hoops stuff. We have a thread for Cyclone season postings.

Most of us have either raided our kids' trick or treat stash or have leftovers from last night. With that in mind, this week the OTN team has selected a related topic for our weekly music thread.

The other two monsters in our evil OTN threesome are @cyclones500 and @CycloneRulzzz.

Specifically, we're looking for songs containing these words in the title or lyrics: Candy, Sweet, Sugar, Honey. Variations such Candies, Sweets, Sweetness, etc are allowed.

We had been knocking around the idea for the Candy, Sugar and Honey topic. We also got a suggestion from @pourcyne for "Sweets" as a potential topic of this week so added that to the list.
