Joens Voted onto Top Five AP All-American Team

“This is a great honor for Ashley and the entire Iowa State program,” coach Bill Fennelly said. “To be recognized with such a great group of players is an outstanding accomplishment. I know she will continue to work hard to play at an All-American level this season.”

Car Insurance Questions

So I was in a car accident today. Luckily I'm fine (so far) but it required an ER visit and an ambulance ride. My car is toast. The driver who I believe was at fault was a semi driver who didn't see me in his blind spot before trying to merge and hit me sending me across 3 lanes of traffic into a cement barrier where another lucky car rear-ended me.

I've only been in a minor fender bender and hit a deer, so I've never had to deal too much with someone else's insurance. Is there anything I should be make sure to do?

I've started a claim with my insurance, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything I should. The first person I talked to at State Farm today, didn't seem especially competent (when I said that the semi that hit me was a Freightliner, she asked if that was a Buick). Hopefully I'll get a new person tomorrow. But should I have both insurance companies give me a price for the car replacement? Should I listen to my State Farm person and just go through them and let them deal with the other insurance company (her reason being that the other person might not have good insurance)? How much should I directly deal with the other insurance company? Anything else I should be aware of?

On another note, just how hard is it going to be to buy a new car right now? I hate car buying in the best of circumstances, but I'd like to find something that I like.

If you were slowed down on 235 this morning right around 7:00, you have me to thank (or more accurately the semi driver who did not see me). But at least you weren't the poor guy with a brand new car who rear ended me after I spun around. ;)

Cyclones to be spoilers?

Also didn't know this stat in bold:

"Big 12: Iowa State (32). The Cyclones (3–4) are the heartbreak kids of the heartland, losing four games by a total of 14 points—just the second team since 1980 to suffer four consecutive conference losses by 14 or fewer (Purdue in 2004 is the other). They’re overdue to win a few, and the conference is tightly bunched.

Which seasons could the Cyclones wreck: Oklahoma State (6–1) and TCU (7–0), both of which are in both the CFP and Big 12 championship hunt. Both games are on the road, Nov. 12 against the Cowboys and Nov. 26 against the Horned Frogs.

Chances of creating chaos: Pretty good. Iowa State has won at least five league games in each of the last five seasons, and consistency has been a hallmark of the program under Matt Campbell. But they’ve got to perform on the road, having lost five straight Big 12 games away from Ames.

(West Virginia has a chance to create even more chaos, with games remaining against all three of the top teams in the league: TCU, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. But the Mountaineers might be less equipped for the chaos role than Iowa State.)"

Could Iowa State go bowling at 5-7?

Of course, I hope we finish 8-4, blah blah blah. But we should consider the real possibility that Iowa State will get a bowl invitation at 5-7.

Brett McMurphy's bowl projections currently anticipate that five 5-7 teams will be needed to fill the ever-growing number of bowl games. The NCAA typically allows 5-7 teams to participate based on academic progress rate (APR). Only the highest APRs of the 5-7 teams are eligible, so if McMurphy is correct, you would expect the five best APRs of the 5-7 teams to be in bowl games.

Iowa State's APR... is good! It's tied for 17th among the 131 FBS football programs this year. And most of the schools ahead of ISU are either definitely going to be bowling (Clemson, Ohio State) or definitely not bowling (Northwestern, Temple).

Meanwhile, 5-7 might be the most likely outcome for ISU's season, and if we lose to OU, it almost certainly will become a heavy favorite in analytical models for the most likely finish.

What would you think about Iowa State filling in a minor bowl, likely on behalf of a G5 league that could not fulfill its bowl obligations, as a 5-7 team?

*** 2022-2023 College Football Survivor Week 10 ***

3 more out but quite a few had to sweat as TCU and Clemson had to rally from double digit deficits. We are now at 42. There are only 6 undefeated teams left. @DarkStar still leads with 10 tiebreaker points but @cowmaster1 and @VikesFan22 are 1 behind with 9 each.

Rules/How to Play if you are new:
  1. Pick a team you think will win that weeks game. Pick only 1 team per week.
  2. Don't pm me the pick, post on here your pick.
  3. You can only pick that team ONCE the entire time you are in the game.
  4. The goal is to advance and be the last person standing.
  5. Only games that have a FBS school facing another FBS school are eligible to be picked.
  6. You have up until the start time of the game you picked to switch.
  7. If your team loses, you are out for the competition.
  8. If you skip a week of picks, you are out.
  9. You can switch as many times up until the game you have picked officially starts.
  10. If you have questions, pm me
  11. Post 2 of the thread will have the possible games you can pick.
  12. Post 3 will have each player and their previous week's picks.
  13. You can only pick teams that are undefeated (they will be bolded).
  14. You can't join in during the middle of the season.
Please include prior weeks picks with your pick for the week.
  15. If an undefeated favorite wins and covers the spread you gain a tiebreaker point. If an undefeated underdog wins you gain 2 tiebreaker points.
  16. There is no tiebreaker point due to a undefeated team winning on the road as that is a tiebreaker in the big 12 elimination game.
  17. Have any questions, pm me or ask in the thread. Thanks!
