Zion Griffin progress

He fell behind early due to injuries, and is just behind better players right now. I think he will be a nice player for us next year though; good 4 for small-ball

Griffin could have been a rotation guy many years, but not with our current depth. When he played in the non-con, I thought he showed some real potential. I think he will develop in a really good player for us

Griffin is one out of 4 freshmen that is not playing in the conference games. He might still get some minutes Griffin if he fits in somehow. When he was out there he looked a little lost on defense at times. I don't know what kind of a scorer he was in HS, but his shot really looked pretty flat the games I saw him it. Without looking, I would guess that he didn't have a very good shooting percentage in the games he did get in.
He has no ball skills. He would have been a great candidate for a RS if he was willing and didn't need bodies early in the year. Lots of growth potential with him.

What the hell? We've had 3 freshmen come in and far exceed expectations. We've had 2 transfers who have came in and exceeded expectations. Zion is going to be a contributor on this team when he has a year or two under him and that is completely fine. We've seen him have some really smooth shots and be quick on the floor. Because of the current roster, he may not get the most minutes this year and that's just fine.

Zion needs to adjust and develop. He has not been able to utilize his skill sets. He was mainly used/played as a spot up three point shooter and I don't think that's the style he plays. I can envision him becoming more of toughness guy who can guard and do dirty work.

They did it with Young and I think Iowa has a kid doing. it. It's actually pretty easy. It just boils down to the number of games you have played.

Both of those players hardly played any games. Zion played too many as has been covered. I'm not sure why you're still debating it.

IM actually not debating it. I am having a discussion on it. It's also funny that you question me debating it still while still debating it. Even though I was simply having a discussion about Medical redshirts.

What is your point with "discussing" it? He can't redshirt and can't medical redshirt. Let's bring up Pemsl and Young again.

Documentation of injuries is required. I didn't mean to imply that it wasn't straight-forward but you can't make things up.

Ok. then shut the hell up and go to a different thread if you don't want to. Im not asking you to discuss it. Everyone else is as well. So go post on a different thread about something else.

There is nothing to discuss in regards to a redshirt.

Shayok is a good comparison for him. Big, strong guy with guard skills.

Yeah, I’m not sure he had many guard skills yet :). I guess I was thinking Shayok just from the size/switch ability perspective. We lose two guards with size next year in Shayok and Babb and would either have to play even smaller or go with two bigs. I’d think the arc problem on Zion’s 3s is fixable so I kind of envision him as a low usage spot up 3-pt shooter/hustle guy on offense. Guys who don’t play as freshman don’t have high success rates but I think Zion can buck that trend.

I have previously compared Zion's game to Ejim's. Undersized stretch 4 hustle rebounder who will be a threat from 3 as he develops. It took a couple of years for Ejim to grow into the all conference player he did his Jr/Sr years. I can see the same path for Griffin.

I think that a good outcome for him next year would to be a big wing that can fill Shayok’s role defensively and make 35-40% of his 3s on offense. I expect more of him as a soph than I did for Lewis.
I don't know - Lewis' shooting mechanics seemed better to me as a freshman than Griffin's (haven't studied them side-by-side but that's my impression). Lewis' issues seemed more mental than mechanical, in terms of his shot.
