Will Prohm ever win a championship?

Honest question for you here, and I'm not trying to start another fight with you, as I think we've had enough of those already, but if a Sweet 16 season is a disappointment for you, and you're pretty much on record as saying that it is, how did you feel about the '14-15 team that crapped all over itself in the first round of the tournament and lost to UAB?

I was as pissed off as anybody they choked against UAB. Then a few days went by and I watched the rest of the tournament and realized Im not going to let 1 game dictate the entire season. Overall I was really pleased with that year, just didnt end like anybody had hoped.

I'd recommend taking care of this part first.

You just KNOW Fred would have won a Big 12 tourney game with that team since he couldn't even with Royce and his teams basically played with fire for both of their magical runs.

Fred would have had us in at least 1 Final Four or won a conference championship by now if he stayed, no doubt in my mind.

Thanks for the hilarious comment. You’re not only a troll you are an idiot.

But you're letting a few games dictate how angry you are over several seasons.

What's that like?

One of the core players didn’t play. And they didn’t implode. They won one less than you thought was acceptable and won two more ncaa games than the previous year.

They won 3 or 4 fewer games than I thought was acceptable that year, don't put words in my mouth.

But you just said you were pissed at prohm for going 10-8 when Fred would have won 11 or 12 (probably not 12 based on his record). So your basing your hate of prohm based on one game.

I know, it's such the Cyclone way to have something of an area or fault fall short based on an injury. Young knows his role. He provides a decent mid-range shot when needed, a sense of silent toughness who just goes to work and doesn't gripe about anything, a defensive presence and was able to move around enough in a spaced offense to not be out of place. His size is vastly needed. I think the front court next year will be the best and deepest we've ever seen.

I know Cameron can be dominant on the boards and blocking shots when "good Lard" shows up, and Jacobson has added a lot to his game since his tenure in Lincoln.

However, Lard still struggles to not foul (which is a function of positioning) and Jacobson, while quite good against teams with smaller posts in the non-conference, has had more of the same difficulties he had in the Big Ten against Big 12 bodies.

Solomon is their height but 20 pounds more of muscle. We could sure use that about now. I was excited to see what he could do as a junior, which is when big men really develop.

Honestly, Solomon, as that big rock/anchor in the middle, might have been the best "system" fit of the three to start and play alongside the four-guard style if he was healthy.

Morris
Mitrou-Long
Thomas/Jackson
Burton
Young

...worked really well for Solomon doing exactly what you said. He played good positional defense down low, was tough and physical, clogged the lane with a big body, created space by boxing out and setting screens, never had a play ran for him and occasionally cleaned up some trash on the boards, and accepted this auxiliary role without even thinking about it.

We have a lot of chuckers on the perimeter. We need a team guy out there like that.

Swapping out the guards above for the ones now...

Weiler-Babb
Haliburton
Horton-Tucker/Wigginton
Shayok
Young

...would have probably worked pretty nicely.

Transfer market is tougher. Was he suddenly going to start enjoying high school recruiting?

Yeah, because programs with #3 seeds in consecutive years have no shot whatsoever of making a Final Four anytime soon with the same coach and that coaches ability to pull in top talent.

You're a complete idiot if you didnt think this program had any shot of making a Final Four with Hoiberg. I even remember experts picking us as trendy Final 4 picks, but you know more than experts right?

They were picking us as a trendy pick this year!

Read Fred’s latest quotes about how he really didn’t hate recruiting.

You're a complete idiot if you think he would have just stopped getting top transfers because it was harder all of a sudden. There is a reason he was getting them in the first place, I'll let you and JSB figure it out since you both are so simple minded.

It didn't act like a Hoiberg team because that team finished 10-8, if it were a typical Hoiberg team it would have finished at least 11-7 or 12-6. Im sorry, but 5th place that year and not even winning a game in the Big 12 tourney was unacceptable. That first year is one of the reasons I still have alot of animosity towards Fred leaving and Prohm being hired.

Had we continued where we left off with those same players I think I would feel differently about Prohm. You could tell right away the program had taken a step back.

Where we left off? We left off getting beaten by ******* UAB after we had lost to TTU that year and then we blew winning the conference outright because we got by Baylor at home and then lost a share because we got beat by a bad KSU team. SO when you say "where we left off" it's essentially the same spot we are in right now.

I'd prefer if you just told me why he was getting them.

12-6 and a Big 12 tourney title to 10-8 and no wins in KC, umm yeah, not exactly leaving off is it?

And this is why it is neither unfair nor inaccurate for me to label you as being a bigger fan of Fred Hoiberg than you are of Iowa State.

And that's fine. But it also makes it very hard for me to accept any criticisms of the current program or coach from you when you make it so clear like this that you haven't moved past Fred's departure yet. You're still upset about a Sweet 16 season that was 3 years ago now. That's just weird.
