Why do people want ISU Baseball back so much?

How many of you, HONESTLY, would regularly attend ISU Baseball games if it existed? Don't lie.

Hmm, Maybe I was thinking in P5? Not sure, either way there isn't many especially among major Colleges.

Yeah I think if you push it back a month or so, you would be ok before it gets too hot in the south, with the playoffs being later in the summer and those like you said could be scheduled in evenings and are usually set in regions as well.

Also with so many student athletes for many sports I can see the possibility of other sports seasons being adjusted as well including Softball. Truthfully some of these sports are summer sports and we are trying to fit them into seasons that don't work. Times have changed on how people get around and how people stay and live on campus etc. when some of these seasons and rules were developed, its time to adjust things.

At the very least there could be some give and take on the start date. The sport will gain wider spread attention if more teams can compete better. That helps everyone.

My only concern about not having baseball is if a super conference type structure develops with the top 48 athletic programs, Iowa State could be looked on differently without baseball. College baseball is a big deal in most of the top programs.

Baseball will have nothing to do with those decisions. Just like wrestling won't.

How many years and how much money would it take to get there?

I don't remember ISU ever being good at baseball, and in the current sports climate I think it would be even harder to go from nothing to actually good. On the off chance we had a great few seasons, would it get any more fan support than the best year of ISU Softball ever?
I used to wish it would be brought back in time for Gary Thompson to see it, but at this point I'm not even sure that he would wish for it.
When was last time ISU was good at baseball? Gary Thompson's 1957 team went to College World Series.

Don't know about before or after.

Agree with cyhiphopp, ISU baseball should probably be left where it is, closed. To open it would be cost prohibitive. Would be nice though.

Personnaly, I would like ISU to have baseball beacause I love the sport and it would be nice to have a team to cheer for in Ames. That being said, I completely understand the reason we don't and with ISU having one of the smallest athletic budgets in the Big 12, Pollard is right when he says our money is better spent helping our current teams. I am also in agreement with the folks that say it would be tough for us to compete in a south heavy conference as the northernmost school. I think the old Big 8 might have been manageable for baseball today, but the Big 12 might be a bit too much.

IF we somehow find a ton of extra money someday and want to add a sport, it should be hockey. As has been said, you could add women's to offset title IX and I feel like this state is ripe for hockey fandom. My ultimate dream would be to be added to the B1G for hockey only. The rivalries that could be born from playing all of those schools could be great and would be a decent crowd draw over time.

Big question: Does anyone here cheer for the Hawkeyes in baseball? I try to just because they're full of Iowa kids and it doesnt hurt ISU in any way for them to be good in baseball but its a challenge.
To lose every game, yes
