Why do I hate the Hawks so much?

They are the joke of the Big 10. Until Nebraska came along they were the weakest academic institution. Within the Big 10 they have very little respect, and they know it. So what does anyone in that situation do? Like any good insecure bully, they profess their superiority against a perceived weaker opponent. For many years ISU fit that bill. But that's been slowly eroding. So what do they do in response? They double down because that's all the bully has left. That's where we are at,

What do Iowa and Iowa State fans gave in common? Neither attended the University of Iowa.
It's true- none of my howk lovin cousins in southern Iowa ever attended EIU. Not one kid, niece nephew any of them have ever gone to school there or worked there. No literal connection with to the place whatsoever but they take out loans to buy season tickets to football.

The fans. They’re arrogant with 0 reason to be arrogant. Heck, they tried to get the legislature to change the name of UNI and ISU to “The University of Iowa- Ames and University of Iowa- Cedar Falls” just so they can claim they have an ag program. Until Franny pants left, half their coaches acted like they should be in anger management ( and still do I guess). When you have multiple fan bases that called into KXNO after Bandgate commenting how $hitty of a fan base they have, and throw full cans of beer at a pregnant woman because she didn’t pick your team, it’s a you problem.

Someday soon, Ohio State and Michigan are going to look around at the Purdue’s and Iowa’s of the world, and realize they don’t do anything to deserve the payout from Fox they get- and then either force them to take a pay cut or kick them out of the B1G, and I for one can’t wait for that day.

The hatred is on the wane as I get older.
Hoping for an ISU/Iowa final in 2 weeks and a championship banner for the 'clones.

It’s been tougher for me to root against this team. They don’t seem to be the arrogant pricks on the court that the previous regimes have recruited. But give it time and I’m sure that fanbase will remind me why I hate them so much.

Been at work for just 3 hours now.. and all the entire office is talking about is how awesome Iowa is. They all have their Iowa polos on, etc. Not one good thing to say about ISU at all.
Time to go look for another job.

I'm 65 years old and I'm just trying to figure out why I hate the Hawks so much. I'm even rooting for the Cornhuskers over them!
What are some of your reasons you hate the Hawks so much?
At your age, a good portion of the fans from the 80's and 90's were insufferable. I grew up solidly in Hawk country and thought I was going to Iowa until I toured both engineering schools after my senior year, it was very obvious ISU's program was much better. I remained a Hayden Fry Iowa fan even wearing my Iowa jacket to class. That is until I went to the Iowa State Iowa game at Cyclone Stadium my freshman year. The Iowa fans were terrible, I disavowed all things Iowa and joined the good guys. You undoubtedly had similar experiences. Hunker fans once were terrible too but at least their team accomplished something.

The McCaffrey regime was very hateable. I miss that big time.

McCollum, on the other hand, seems like a good coach and the team plays hard and doesn't seem to be a bag of dicks. I was excited to see them take down a toxic SEC school last night.

Football is still very hateable with Ferentz and co.

Hawkfans ALWAYS AND FOREVER hateable.

The fans are insufferable.

This. And I get Iowa State has insufferable and terrible fans amongst us. But per capita, Iowa has some of the worst and obnoxious fans in the country.

Especially when it comes to basketball. They couldn’t care about basketball for years as a way to cope with their biggest rival being better and want to invalidate anything Iowa State ever accomplished.

All year, didn’t see a peep about Iowa men’s basketball by a lot of their fans. Yet last night, everyone was posting about it.

The greatest American stories are always about overcoming a disadvantaged upbringing to contribute positively to society.

A Hawkeye-to-Cyclone conversion is this tale’s purest form.

I grew up during the 80's and 90's and Iowa State fans were grossly out numbered. My generation of Iowa fans are absolutely the worst since they grew up absolutely dominating us in Football and had the better basketball program most years too. It was tough being a lil Clone.

Growing up in Eastern Iowa, it was pretty miserable. Then went to ISU, stayed in central Iowa, got off more social media and have seen my hate move more to an actual fun rivalry side. Any issues I feel, often are due to me running my mouth too much.

It’s not easy, but I don’t think Duke fans are to moved by UNC making a sweet 16. Good rivalries have two elite teams, to be honest. I know 100% our team and coaching staff does not care what happened in the Iowa-Florida game. I’m not going to let their success take away from my happiness of killing Kentucky and hopefully going further.

Social media has only fueled my hatred for Iowa. The number of anonymous burner accounts that fan base has is weird.

Definitely their fans. It's also the luck they get too. We've had a couple serious Final Four contender teams the last 12 years. All of them had some sort of injury right at or during the tourney to throw a wrench at ISU. Also, wasn't there that stretch where ISU lost to the eventual champion a few years in a row? Iowa finally gets to day 2 and meets probably one of the worst #1 seeds I can ever remember.

Florida was so bad, I actually wasn't pissed Iowa won. I don't care for Florida either and they were so bad, they didn't deserver to beat anyone last night, even Iowa. It was like they had no idea how to coach or play basketball.

This year there is also the few times I've seen Iowa play they talk about Sturtz like he's the second coming of Michael Jordan combined with Larry Bird. Yet I haven't seen the guy do anything that any other decent player has been able to do. And in two of those games, (one being the ISU game) the guy was non-existent and just taking up space on the court.

It 100% has to do with the fact that everyone thinks it is weird that our nickname is a weather event but our mascot is a bird but NO ONE thinks it is weird that their mascot is a bird but their nickname is the internal organ of that same bird.

No one ever stops to consider that cardinals are swept up and contained in nearly every major Iowa state tornado, just like a pair of hawk eyes are found inside nearly every hawk in Iowa.

We should change the name of the Cy-Hawk series to the Two Strange Containers series.

If only the UNI Panthers mascot were a Bulldog or the Drake Bulldogs mascot a dog poop emoji would this all come full circle.

But the hatred runs deep.
