Why all the doom and gloom?

I’m not doom and gloom because I didn’t think we’d be 7-1. But to lose as a two touchdown favorite at home (after almost losing as a two touchdown favorite at home last game) coming off a bye with us being as healthy has we’ve been all year is certainly very disappointing.

Huge missed opportunity is how I feel this morning.
Exactly this. Mathematically, of course everything is still out there in front of us. We can still make the B12 title game, win it, and make the playoff. But the way we have looked on the field the last two games gives me absolutely zero faith that we can actually execute and pull it off.

Yes. It's not just that they lost yesterday, but the last 2 games they have not played good football. And those 2 games were at home against not so great opponents.

Speaking of math - I think that’s the best way to explain how I feel about this stuff. After the WVU game, I felt we would be favored in every game left (with the possible exception of the Big 12 Championship Game…and of course not including the playoff). But realistically winning all games and going undefeated is not likely. (It doesn’t happen often.)

So I ran the numbers and if you believed we had a 70% chance of victory in each of 6 games (not true…but just go with it), the most likely outcome is to win between 4&5 games. Winning 5 would slightly outperform…4 would slightly underperform. There’s about a 30% chance that you would win 5 games. There is only an 11% chance you would win all 6. So even if you were somewhat heavily favored in all 6 games, you only win in 5 or more a little less than half the time.

For those who are curious, a team would only go undefeated through conference play (including winning the championship game…so 9 games) 4% of the time (statistically) if they were a heavy 70% favorite in every single game.

Brahmer being out hurt more than anything. Moore and Burkle are good but not Brahmer. We are limited in using the TE at times and it showed. Also, Hansen would have been the go to guy on the first and goal but I think he is on a play count and MC opted to not go with him. If he and Brahmer get healthy are offense is a totally different animal. On defense, we have to get better and defending the hurry up offense. A lot of that is the inexperience at LB. Newell was discussing at last night and made the point Heacock can only do so much with them at this point in their careers and the offense is exploiting it. The young guys are growing and learning the curve is break neck and last night it cost us.

If you are only going to care about the playoffs, then there’s no reason to be an Iowa State fan. Or any fan. Why bother? I think Iowa State can be a top 4 program in this league, but making the playoffs every year will not happen.

So why would anyone bother doing this?
This is an interesting take on many levels.

It's interesting and it's true. It sounds like you are done being a fan. And that's fine. No team is going to make the playoffs every year.

But I still like it, so I'm going to enjoy the wins. Be disappointed in the losses. And hope that overall, I'm enjoying things enough.

ISU is losing now for the same reason they underperformed with Purdy as a senior.

Campbell has had years to figure that out, and refuses to.

THEY LOST ONCE. THEY AREN'T LOSING.

I hope that if we actually start losing, you stay away because you've already reacted like we are.

For ****'s sake.

And here comes the flood of folks demanding that fans accept—and somehow be excited by—mediocrity.
You are such a *******. You literally only show up when things aren’t going well or we lose.

Then you portray yourself as some higher-level fan who just demands more. EABOD troll

Yesterday is gone. The only thing today that is important is KU. Next week it will be something else….

One other thing, this team has won seven games in a row, I will believe they cannot win four games in a row only when some other team beats them.
