White Helmets!!

If you want to be confused with other teams like Iowa... sure. Do that.

The I state symbol is perfect for ISU.

For a limited use throwback type alternate helmet I think a Cardinal helmet with a Gold I on it would be really cool. We likely wouldn't use them against Iowa.

If people tune into a football game and can't figure out who's playing based on the score keeper on the screen and the fact that we're wearing red and gold and not black and gold, then they have more problems than just confusion.

That looks hideous

What do you expect, that would be wearing khakis.

Check out the yellow 1981 helmet. Obviously these aren't gamers as the tornado and "cyclones" helmet are on revolution helmets and the tornado decal is a backwards tornado but it is an interesting mock up from the equipment crews tweet.

It's hard to believe how many different helmets ISU has gone through in the last 40 years

Are you sure the yellow '81 weren't gamers? Didn't players "earn" a different color helmet sometimes...like helmet stickers to the next level?

EDIT: nm just figured out what you meant.

That yellow helmet is our helmet. Remove the text, enlarge the tornado (possibly update) and keep the red center stripe.

At the very least switch to yellow helmets w/ red stripe and keep the I-State logo.

The most popular helmet with the youngest generation here at my place remains the 2000 helmet.

I believe, based on the marker number written inside, that it was JaMaine Billups helmet. Picture is NOT JaMaine. :)

Agree. For home games, switch back to yellow helmets w/cardinal stripe(s). The I-State logo is solid too. Living in KC and being around many of our Big 12 brethren, they feel it is the BEST logo ISU has ever had. (They all thought the McCarney "bird-in-a-blender" logo was garbage/too busy. And again, the cardinal is just confusing to most outsiders.) They think I-State falls in line with the logos that most of our conference/former conference has: (i.e. Tech, OSU, aTm, OU, BU, Neb, etc...)

And for people clamoring for Cy to be featured, that is just a mistake. Nobody outside of the state of Iowa knows who Cy is. In fact, it's confusing as our nickname is the "Cyclones" and then we have a walking bird on our helmet? That doesn't work. Nationally, the I-State logo is VERY recognizable. It just looks so traditional and clean, really, it is great that ISU finally has a solid logo. It needs to be the main mark for the university as well as our Athletics Department forever.

Miami has a bird for their mascot too, but you don't see their main mark as that bird, they have their "U" logo featured. I mean, people in our own conference don't know the backstory of us becoming the Cyclones, so you have to see that it can be confusing to them when we had a cardinal-bird featured.

Hey, I love Walking Cy and the 80's Tornado too, but they should only be used as secondary logos. I could get behind the Tornado being used for some sort of special occasion though.

Looks to be about the same height as JaMaine...

I'd like to think the tornado isn't actually "backwards." The tail has been flipped to indicate direction of travel in line with a forward facing player.

I too would love to see an actual cyclone (minus the cursive Iowa State $cript) back on the helmet, but I prefer a triple stripe to a single. Would make a great secondary logo; the block I-State should always be on the 50, though. It has really grown on me. I also wish we could incorporate the outline of the state of Iowa somehow as well.

Ever since the latest uniforms, I've always thought our road jerseys were one of the best in football, while our home jerseys were just "meh." So similar, and yet miles apart. I think we should always wear the white jersey and switch the pants/helmet. All white for the road and either red/white/red or yellow/white/yellow at home.

I really dug the all reds from last season. Especially at night verses TCU.

We're on the same page...I find it so irritating the way the red logo gets lost on the red helmet. It's like a green Spartan head outlined in white on a green helmet for MSU or a white longhorn outlined in orange on a white helmet for UT. Dumb.

Hopefully you had #6 Carl Gomez's helmet from the 2000 team.

Cute kid but those helmets are HORRIBLE. I went to ISU during this era and the colors of the uniforms/equipment/tshirts etc. are just awful. Possibly the worst of all time.
