Wes Miller

Because DeVries played a huge role in changing GMac's coaching and playing style at Creighton. That's why fears of DeVries being another GMac at ISU are baseless.
I was wondering if Mac didn't change his coaching style at Creighton. How did that evolve and how again did DeVries play a role? I'm assuming DeVries is more aggressive up-tempo?

Didn't hurt to have Dougie in the line-up his first 4 years also. He turned out to be a great college player.

Should reach out to Tad Boyle at CU he is not that highly paid, and his win loss at CU is pretty darn good.
223–138 (.618)

I think he is making less than 2 million per year.

He could be at a point in his life where he does not want to move, but think it would be a solid hire.

Kind of makes you wonder if McDermott had been more successful at ISU (like he is now at Creighton), would we have had both Doug and Barnes at ISU? Two of the best in-State players in a long time.

What could have been? But then we wouldn't have had Hoiberg, et al. So there is that.

We know Doug wouldn’t have been here. He would have been at UNI. I also doubt Barnes was not going to a blue blood no matter who was the coach at ISU.

But would Doug have committed here if he thought his Dad was on good footing at Iowa State?

I wonder if poor Ben Jacobson ever wonders what could have been if he had kept the future National Player of the Year.

You may be right. Interesting to think about none-the-less.

Considering DeVries was hired by Altman.....it probably played quite a bit into GMAC changing his approach and not spending the entire game trying to direct players with his 3.124 offensive sets while wearing out his cufflinks like he did at ISU.

No....Doug was never coming here whether his dad was on good footing or not. He was going anywhere but here.

Oh the memories. Sometimes funny, sometimes amusing, sometimes painful.

To your 2nd paragraph, writing as a dual fan, I promise he does, along with every single UNI basketball fan.

If anyone is interested in Wes Miller’s coaching style his team is on espn u right now

I watched a good portion of the second half. Full disclosure I was running on the treadmill so maybe not my best analysis.

Offensively they looked good. I thought they played with good pace and generally had good half court sets with good continuity. At the heart it was a ball screen continuity but they did enough with entries, ghosting screens and off ball action to make it work well. It flowed much better when the Abdulsalam guy was in because he seemed like a more active screener but man he struggled when you put the ball in his hands. The other big was more of a pick and pop guy which seemed to limit the sets more but he was also more effective when he had the ball at least shooting the three. Putting an athletic big with some offensive skill like Foster in the middle of that offense would be fun.

Defensively I wasn’t very impressed. Furman didn’t look good at that end at all in my opinion and they still scored enough to stay in the game.
Understand small sample size and I’ll give him another chance but from that game I’d say there is some good but I’m not going to email JP about him.

Let's just hire Porter Moser - Loyola Chicago. Voila. All problems solved.

Assuming we are looking? Are we looking?

He seems to have had sustained success, but why the heck was he at South Dakota State so long??? 21 seasons is a looooong time to hang tight when you aspire to something bigger.

Also, why is he barefoot in his wikipedia photo?
15-4 this year with no bad losses yet.

The barefoot is for some charity that gives socks and shoes to the poor. But why that is is Wikipedia picture is weird

Hear's a head to head matchup between two discussed coaching candidates and teams, Nate Oats, Alabama/ and TJ Otz, UNLV, earlier this playing year, Dec., 2020.

Interesting to note Caleb Grill is playing for UNLV this year. This particular game he scored 27! Not bad. Caleb is averaging 9.9 pts a game this year.

And why is it again he left ISU? A good shooter. ISU desperately needs some shooters. Chin scratch.

If nothing else, Wes, along with several other candidate names, is still a better name than Fran...

Reading through all these post some of you have done great research of who and why we should hire this next small program guys..... Devires would be a repeat of the same thing we run into just like we are in now he’s a decent X’s and O’s but I don’t see him bringing in any big recruits and I don’t see him having the ability to out coach higher level coaches that are in the big 12.

But why are we selling ourselves short that we have to go get some lower level up and coming coach instead of hiring someone from a bigger school that has shown they can be a good coach at this level? We have an amazing environment with Hilton, the practice facility is great, the new sports performance building and the future of the district between Hilton and Jack Trice , and it’s not like our coaches are so badly paid, and we been a strong winning program that challenged KU for the conference title and winning the big 12 championship and having success at the ncaa tournament. So why do we have to take a “chance “ on someone who hasn’t proved they can be a higher level coach ?
