WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

South Carolina reminds me of that 14-15 Kentucky team. Athletes everywhere but skills are a little not great.

I had a similar impression watching that game last year. Most of their success seems to be from how big and tall they are?

At the same time, 36-0 doesn't happen by accident.
I felt certain LSUs athleticism would beat Iowa despite the LSU dysfunction. At this point, I won’t be shocked if Iowa wins it all.

I feel like SC is a much improved team from the one Iowa beat last year. But no one gave Iowa a chance last year either.

Yeah I actually think Iowa definitely wins this title. South Carolina may be one of the least impressive undefeated teams in the women’s game. Now, defensively they are good BUT they won’t be able to defend what Iowa does best, which is Clark dropping bombs or facilitating with the quick guards.

Iowa is going to pack the paint and dare South Carolina to make threes just like last year. Gamecocks will have to make them or it will be a repeat of last year imo.

This game is hot garbage. No discipline, fundamentals, lazy passes, sloppy dribbling, poor defense, easy missed shots, etc
The only thing SC brings is athleticism and height. If Iowa shoots well and moves the ball they will win

SC has the #2 three point shooter in the country in PaoPao. She hits 46% of her 3s.

The other key for South Carolina against Iowa will be to limit possessions. LSU got into a track meet in the first half against them. If you are South Carolina you make it an absolute slog and drain the shot clock unless you get an automatic layup with Cardoso.

Well flipped on the SoCar game it was one point at half but they put on a clinic in the 3rd to go up by 20+

The blueprint is to play the game in the 60s. They've only been held under 70 four times, and split those. Interesting that their three lowest-scoring games were against Big 12 teams.

58 - Kansas State (L)
64 - West Virginia (W)
67 - at Iowa State (W)
69 - at Indiana (L)

SC is still the favorite, but its which SC team that shows up - the one that blew leads to Indiana and let Oregon State hang around, or the one that just blitzed NC State in the 3rd. Iowa/UCONN can beat the first team, but not sure about the second.

Staley got completely out-coached by Iowa last year. Iowa dared them to shoot threes and they wouldn’t even take wide open looks. And when they did, the long rebounds neutralized SCs rebounding advantage.

Staley did next to nothing to adjust in the game last year. I don’t put much stock in her ability to strategize this year, either.

As usual…the officiating sucks…a friend who is an official messaged me that he needs to take a class this summer to relearn what fouls are based off what he’s seeing.
