Walking Dead

Yeah - I'm betting it's not an accident. Someone is doing it on purpose. From the scenes for next week, my guess is that it's an "alarm" because Alexandria is under attack. The residents are VERY naive; I'm guessing one of them set it off to get the "soldier police force" back to defend them...and didn't think at all about it attracting the walkers.

I am hoping it is the Wolves. When Rick and crew get back, everyone tells them the horn was coming from outside the compound, and they did not go investigate. Great that they are keeping the Wolves so mysterious. Can have some great episodes fighting off the horde, then have to deal with the real evil.

Ron is going to make a great evil little bastard.

If FTWD were judged on it's own merits it'd probably be pretty good. The problem, like I said in that thread and everyone else seems to agree, is that the only reason why anybody watched that show was to see how everyone became infected with walker disease in the first place, and that was never addressed. It never did what we wanted it to do which is why it's so disliked. Nobody wanted another Walking Dead to get invested in.

Yeah, I thought that was dumb. Why not see more of what was happening nationally via the news or something? I would have liked to have seen more on how it got started. But beside that, I just didn't find any of the characters likeable and I found myself caring more about minor characters last night than major characters in FTWD.

As far as the season premier, I thought it was good. Disagree with Rick's plan though. Why wouldn't you just park a whole bunch of cars there and set up sniper duty? Or better yet, find a crate of dynamite and throw one stick in at a time. I mean, where were they even leading this parade of zombies?? That was dumb. The episode was set up good though.

It did seem weird. Why not line up a fence and park the cars like lanes creating narrow lines of walkers. Put a person with a big knife at each hole in the wall where the lanes are and execute one after the other. Have 2-3 man shifts when each get tired. At about 20 lanes, you could take them out in a day.

I was thinking they build a funnel of cars and fences and lead them out, much like they are doing now, but funnel them right to the cliffs where Ron almost fell off. Let gravity and a 100 foot fall onto rocks kill them. It would be like a waterfall of walkers and entertaining to watch.

Okay, the horn at the end. We know it’s coming from Alexandria, which could mean one of two things: Either some emergency has happened back in Alexandria that they have to get them to come back with some loud noise, or someone knows about Rick’s plan and is trying to sabotage it. What can you say about that?
Ooh, those are both great ideas … [but] you’re not close. But they’re both good ideas.

That pit to me just seemed such a natural place to keep and collect walkers. The went to all that trouble to build those walls to turn the walkers, surely they could have built layers of walls on the two entrances roads to the the pits to keep in the walkers.

I like this show, thought it was a great episode, but as much as "in touch" Rick is with common sense about the new world, and exhibits natural leadership ability, the writers sure portray his problem solving as being very poor.

And, so Carter was "doomed," that doesn't mean you let him run all alone to take point in a situation....

They made a wall with a curve in it to turn the herd where they wanted. They certainly could have made a similar wall on the access roads to the quarry that would have just dumped walkers right back into the pit.

Eventually, that would just crack open their heads after enough falls, no? Good ideal...

As the pit keeps collecting walkers, the bodies could pile up to create a ramp that led out. Also, walkers that close to camp could be used by an enemy to attack the camp.

I'm a little torn on this episode, because it feels like the quarry was perfect walker trap and they didn't take advantage of it. Build a wall to replace the semi and head over to that tractor dealer and get the largest front loader they have and lay waste to them. Leave enough to continue to generate noise, wait 2-4 weeks and repeat. Even tossing a couple of gas cans in there would have been a better plan rather than leading them like Piped Piper right past Alexandria.

I like the idea of a kill pit but I don't think they want one so close to camp. If they draw in some kind of megaherd, the pit might be nothing more than an obstacle.

I know this show is a drama, but I find the survival aspect more interesting and tend to focus on that more than the characters.

Certainly a possibility, but no more so than without anything. Assuming their plan worked(which appears in jeopardy), they've only solved the initial problem and going forward there isn't anything pulling them away from town, which Rick even speculated was happening and why they didn't see a lot of walkers around Alexandria.

I can't remember exactly but aren't they in or near Virginia? Lotta coal and coal pits. Set up a noise maker in a coal mine and light that bastard up. You'd have a self sustaining walker trap. The environment would go to hell, but then the world is already full of zombies, so priorities. :twitcy:

Alexandria is due south of the Capitol; it sits on the southern section of the Beltway. My kid lived there while he was in training at Quantico.

Yep, we lived in Arlington for a while which is also very close in. I think Mount Vernon is in Alexandria, and of course, Old Town.
