***Video Board Renderings Released***

Here's a quick run-down in concrete mix-design. An important factor in the strength of concrete is the water-to-cement ratio (w/c). The ratio is typically around .3 or .35 pounds of water per pound of cement. The lower this ratio, the stronger the concrete will be (so long as the batch has been properly mixed).

The higher the ratio is the easier the concrete is to work with usually, but the lower the strength of the concrete is.

So yes, water makes the cement in the concrete cure, but you have to be very careful of the ratio of water in the concrete compared to cement.

On a side note-please don't call concrete cement or call cement concrete. Concrete contains cement, cement doesn't contain concrete

I didn't see how hard it rained, just that it was/had rained while they were pumping it. And I'd argue there's nothing worse than having too much water added to the concrete and completely ruining your strength.

Looks like the steel erectors mobilized to the site this morning (White truck with the blue Miller welder behind it). Also, looks like they are spreading out what appear to be crane pads on the Southern most part of the concrete pad behind the goal posts. The crane should be onsite anytime from tomorrow to Wednesday hopefully, with Thursday and Friday for assembly/rigging for hopefully a Monday erection of the supports.

Obviously, this is all pure speculation.

I'm hoping the Facilities Management people read this and zoom in on the West footing pad or behind the goal posts to see in further detail what work is going on.

Also, some updated pictures from ISU would be of benefit :)

My guess is that the mats they are setting down are for a laydown area for when the steel starts to show up. They way they are setup at the moment (large gaps between mats) doesn't really make sense for a crane setup to me.

I'm very curious to see the setup they are going to have for setting the video board support steel itself. I'd assume they are assembling it on the ground and are going to do a 2 crane pick to get it in place but the setup looks incredibly tight from the webcam angle. That balcony/deck jutting out from the Jacobsen is not helping them at all.

I am doubtful they'd do a two-crane-pick, but without knowing how the videoboard arrives it's impossible to know. Two-crane-picks are an incredibly complex operation that cost a lot of money and require a lot of time just practicing the lift. I would say the staging area is also too small to support two cranes.

I think there will be just one crane, but the videoboard will be shipped in small enough pieces that multiple cranes won't be required. I imagine the audio and visual equipment will be installed after the steel structure has been fully erected.

I heard that there will be a two crane transfer to get pieces over the fencing. I'm looking forward to seeing that in action.

When do you think this will happen? That way I can log onto the webcam early morning and not have to get shut out from watching it.

Or course it wasn't designed with the intention of a crane sitting on it. They didn't sit there when they designed the paving around the Jake and think 'we outta make this 10-12" paving instead of 5-6" paving because we might need a big crane on this walk to do a new scoreboard in the future.' However, I don't think the crane is going to sink through the ground with these lifts off the concrete.
 
The webcam just zooomed in on the parking lot. Semi with the first part of the support has arrived. I tried to get a screen capture, but it zoomed back out.

What all happened onsite today? I was involved in an owner's meeting all morning and afternoon and didn't get a chance to catch the cam at all today. Anyone got a brief synopsis of what all went down? All I see now is a big chunk of iron on a truck.

I checked it yesterday and it looked like they had the concrete footings done which means it is just about time for putting up the metal supports. As long as the weather cooperates and they have the next pieces of the metal support, the legs should go up pretty quickly.
