From that, verify if the East pad for scoreboard column is poured for me would ya. You can't tell from where the camera angle is.

Anyways, I know where the camera link is and I've seen it.

Looks like they have the anchor bolts laid out and hopefully the rain holds off so they can get this thing poured tomorrow. It'd be nice if they'd get it poured this afternoon yet, but don't know the intentions. If it rains as much as they are saying around 2" this weekend, it's going to make that hole a freaking pond and awhile to dry out. Once poured, 7 day cure for breaks, and from there they can start bringing in the big structures that were being fabricated and shown on Cyclones.com. I'm guessing it will be the first week in June before we see any of the structures being brought in and set.

They had better hurry up and get the concrete poured! Storms are getting awfully close to Ames...looks like they got 2 pouring and 1 and cue. I think it is 14 feet x 14 feet x 8 feet deep? That's almost 1600 CF of concrete or damn near 60 yards of concrete. I don't know the size of the trucks, but would guess around 10 or less yards per truck, so 6 or 7 total.
 
I didn't actually see how much they still had to pour in the rain because there were already too many people watching. It won't likely ruin anything but maybe the finished surface of the concrete.

Also, looking at the new renderings that show concrete up 10' feet or so. With the concrete they placed yesterday with the 4 sets of anchor bolts for the steel structure, the concrete that goes up 10' or so will more than likely be precast concrete attached to the concrete footing and welded to the steel structure. Thatd be my guess as its cheaper and really fast and looks just as good if not better with all the fancy touches you can put on it!
 
Pouring concrete in the rain...not the best practice for the footings :jimlad:

not a hard rain, but a little rain can actually be a really good thing for concrete. Keeps it wet so it drys slower. Nothing worse than pouring concrete on a hot dry day and having the stuff dry before you're done.

I might sound stupid here, but isn't water what makes cement harden? The chemical reaction that causes the hardening can't happen without water.

Here's a quick run-down in concrete mix-design. An important factor in the strength of concrete is the water-to-cement ratio (w/c). The ratio is typically around .3 or .35 pounds of water per pound of cement. The lower this ratio, the stronger the concrete will be (so long as the batch has been properly mixed).

The higher the ratio is the easier the concrete is to work with usually, but the lower the strength of the concrete is.

So yes, water makes the cement in the concrete cure, but you have to be very careful of the ratio of water in the concrete compared to cement.

On a side note-please don't call concrete cement or call cement concrete. Concrete contains cement, cement doesn't contain concrete. :jimlad:

I didn't see how hard it rained, just that it was/had rained while they were pumping it. And I'd argue there's nothing worse than having too much water added to the concrete and completely ruining your strength.

all true. They will do their core tests... I bet it will still yield strengths they need. But you are right, it could be a problem.
