Were you even being serious with this?!?! There's absolutely no room for advertising. I know it may look nicer without ads... but if we want to be able to afford something like this, as well as hire out an operator to run this thing... we need to bring in some ad revenue. And secondly... these aren't even our colors. Whoever did the rendering of this should have used our school colors.
However the score is about right

Al's got this right on. Kansas's stadium is a ******* joke. It's difficult to even just go to the bathroom there. It's an awful stadium.
Don't hate on Okie State though, anyone that's been there knows it's pretty neat how the field and GIA are joined.

There is no angle where it doesn't look good, IMO.
1. The roof is contextual, there are angles all over Trice (have you thought of the seating decks? How about the glass/construction of the Press box?), the material palette fits.
2. Good point, it is a little small. However, there is still an opportunity to put a couple of extensions on the hillsides.
3. Wind is overstated...there is wind everywhere and yes, Trice is windy. If there was a north endzone consisting of 2 seating decks, there would still be a lot of turbulence that came over it because of the high velocity of wind coming over that hill. And, we are really only talking about November thru March as the high wind months in Iowa. The scoreboard will block some wind.
We should embrace the architecture of the Jacobson Building. If you really want to tear something down, it should be the Olsen Building connected at the North and those dorky cut-out/lit pillars...yikes. This should be the new site of the Football-Only Facility, if not the South Endzone.
Once this scoreboard goes in, you are severely reducing the amount of real estate for a north bowl...just out of the question. Like I said above, there would probably be room/vision to build a couple extensions on each side (and I guess in the middle if you demoed the Jake).
I understand why some people may not think it fits in the best, and I am glad that some people are admitting that they do not have a design sense. Not trying to insult anyone, of course, but it is a great little piece of contemporary architecture which I think fits in well.
I would be afraid of anything that went in there that this board thinks would "fit in" better with the Trice and in the north endzone in general...and I'm sure a lot of people would realize that if we had made a mistake (*cough* K-State *cough*).
And the parking around that hole was pathetic. I remember having to park 2 deep under some carport which literally trapped us. After the game we actually had to sit and wait for the people to come back to the car in front of us. Their tailgating is pretty much non-existent.
When I see the backside of the new scoreboard to me there is room for expanding seating to the new structure, if our attendance ever gets to that point I like what we are doing by far just wanting constructive opinions. All in all I really like the score/video board. I do think the structure of the new video board will be different than the renderings.
this is what i'd love to see happen. there is so much heresay out there about the next phase-putting the football facilities under the bowled in south end zone being one of them. i'd prefer they just bowled it in, and added wings to each side of the jacobsen building-1 side being our lockerrooms, the other being the visitors/new offices/etc-the idea here being the visitors should be stuffed into smaller locker rooms therefore making room for both.

I think currently the west half of the jacobson building is fb right? Who fills this space when we have the fb only facility?
Don't know if this has been discussed yet, but I just found out this weekend that the scoreboard was designed to be a section lower, but ISU requested an additional section of steel so that the top of the structure was at the same level as the top of the concourse.

I noticed that there was a tiny image of the scoreboard on the main cyclones.com page that shows the base of the steel towers covered (or concrete). Also, the "I-State Jack Trice Stadium" on each side had been changed from the original renderings too.
I'm not a photoshop guy, but if it is true that they are going to have concrete tapered pillars about halfway up and exposed steel above that, it shouldn't look bad at all. The pillars would tie in with Hilton, the exposed steel with the roof of the IPF. Can't fault that design at all.
