***Video Board Renderings Released***

The only issue I have at the moment is whether ISU will be purchasing their own HD equipment and hiring out a crew, or if they will contract that service. I worked camera for gameday events at Hilton and Jack Trice and the company that was contracted didn't have the equipment then (2005-2007), and I highly doubt that they have the equipment now.

Other than that it looks great!
 
This has probably already been discussed in not only this thread but also in others :unsure:, but what is happening at the south endzone when this is completed?

I personally love driving down Elwood (University, whatever) and seeing the big I State on the black back of that tower...I am assuming it will be torn down, but that would be a little disappointing.
 
Ha, you guys think this will find it way to NCAA Football. They haven't changed JTS to include the suites constructed in 2007. I also believe I read somewhere that the NCAA won't allow the stadiums to be licensed so they can't be changed.
 
Daktronics is the the one that runs the video for jack trice/hilton so I'm sure that there will be equipment involved that will put this to it's full use since they are the one's making it.

South Video board is staying for now. It will be used for ad space I think.

Now, when the south endzone is bowled in, we'll see what they do with the old scoreboard.

From the announcement...
"The need for a new video display and sound system has been discussed in recent years because the current system, purchased in 2002, is outdated. The current board will be used in some capacity (such as game statistics and other in-game messages) in its present location for the foreseeable future."
 
I really like the new board. The only thing that I think would be better is if it is put a little lower than it is shown. I think the best look would be if it is almost sitting on top of the Jacobson building. Other than that I think it looks good!

EA can make updates but the usually don't pay enoguht attention to ISU or smaller schools. The liscensing issue prevents them from allowing the stadiums to be updated in the game by the user in dynasties, but EA tries to make updates to actual stadiums when the get around to it. There is a 0% chance that the new board is in there this year, maybe next year.

Thanks! I'm at work and just stopped for a second to see what the hot topic of the day was, didn't have time to read the release. Now that it's lunchtime, I can dig a little deeper.:spinny:
 
Nationally where does this size of a video board put us? Are we cracking the top 10-15 in terms of size?? If so I'm happy becase size DOES matter!!!

Also, you have to keep in mind that they are probably designing it so if they make a move to replace the Jake that they won't have to do anything to the new video board.

I am really liking the fact they are leaving the old board in place until the bowling of the endzone. At most big time stadiums they have multiple video boards and although the old one sucks it will serve the purpose fine as a seconday video board.

I am really pumped!!

Should put it about 15th on that list. The bottom of board is about 20' above Jacobson's roof to prevent snow drift loading on a roof that was not designed for it. The board sits about 10' back from the south face of the Jacobson building to allow those in the far northern seats to have a chance to view it. The steel structure for the board is in the neighborhood of 200 tons.

Have to remember, there's only so much $ they can work with here, they already asked for 1 million more, they didn't ask for 1.3 million more just to put block around support structure to make it 'match' other structures around it.

That depends on what you mean by "brick". There's quite a bit of the tan brick/pavers around...including the Jacobson, Olsen, concession buildings. What I would do is take those same tan pavers up to the level that they are on the side of the Jake (see SE view of the new video board). That would match in with the current facilities (tan pavers and structural steel) plus prevent people from climbing. And, it wouldn't cost all that much I'd bet. Of course, they could do that anytime and it wouldn't need to be done this summer.
 
This is amazing. I think someone mentioned it before but I sit in the south endzone with my current tickets and this is going to be f'ing sweet! And how good would some Tornado sirens sound on the new sound system, all on Ames will think there is a huge storm coming!

So to summarize, amazing, sweet. Love it!

Not sure how anyone could ever complain....I do not think some realize how big this will be.
