TJ bio . . .

So why does everything you just said about Hornacek using the job as a stepping stone NOT apply to TJ???

TJ has never been mentioned as NBA coach. If TJ leaves eventually it will most likely be because of several years of success, thus setting up the program up for the future. If Hornacek leaves right away recruiting will suffer.

Im not saying I wouldn't be happy with Hornacek, I think it would be a slam dunk and make waves nationally, but the whole board is preaching and whining about loyalty but want nothing to do with the gut that has been here the longest on the bench.

TJ left to take what was arguably a demotion a few years ago...or did you forget about that?

So, if TJ left, it would be for the same reason as Fred, but maybe not to the NBA.

Didnt forget, he left to expand his resume for a head coaching job thinking that like most of us Hoiberg would be here for more than a drink of coffee and there was no room for promotion here. He also came back after turning down interviews for HC jobs elsewhere.

I don't like the sounds of this TJ character...seems too much like an aggressive, career-advancing opportunist to me! I think we should aim lower and nab someone who considers Iowa State their ceiling.

The people that want Hornacek instead of TJ are probably the same people that were ****** when we hired Hoiberg instead of Billy Gillespie. I don't really care about resumes. I just want someone that will win. Period.

And I don't know what people see in Hornacek that screams "instant college coaching star" anyways. TJ's resume, to me, is much more college HC ready than Hornacek's.

Bad generalization and not even close.
I haven't seen any pro-Gillespie folks screaming for Hornacwk, and I was as far from enth used over that Gillespie idea as can be.

Way too much of this broad generalizing today to discee see it opinions instrad of engaging with them. Very lazy approach.

Hornacek has been an NBA assistant and an NBA coach. His shortcomings are perceived to be in recruiting. And it is expected that his staff would be able to address those shortcomings.

For Otz, his shortcomings are perceived to be the actual floor coaching and X's and O's. But, we have seen from Fred that there are staff out there who can fill those voids in the early coaching days. If there is one thing that Otz probably learned from Fred, it is that you must put aside your ego and hire those who will fill the areas where you have shortcomings to give you success. Fred surrounded himself with good people.

Are you just making this **** up? Show me one legitimate source that's made these claims.

What if the NBA didn't want Hoiberg? He would have stayed here for a long, long time.

ISU is a stepping stone, but so are about 98% of jobs in college basketball. But we can still be successful.

True, and we're a lot better off being a stepping stone for good coaches that have success here than mediocre coaches that don't have much success "but want to be here".

It's pretty prevalent on this board. Certainly not a legitimate source though but that's who he's arguing with. We aren't arguing with national media on here.

When a person says he does "not have enough experience"......then what do you think they mean? That has been made multiple times.

It is obvious that Otz has tons of recruiting experience. Because that has been his strength as an assistant, for nearly a decade at a couple of Power 5 Conference schools.

So tell us what is meant by "not having enough experience" means.

I could see Hornacek staying a long time. He is older and has already done a stint in the NBA. Maybe he would relish the opportunity to win a championship and become a legend like a Coack K or Izzo. Fred would be forgotten.

Who is the better recruiter - Wayne Morgan or TJ
Who is the better coach - Morgan or TJ

So tell us what is meant by "not having enough experience" means.

For me, its the zero years of having been the main person running a team, program, or organization. He has never put together a staff. He has never been the primary person interfacing with the AD, fans, or donors (Tailgate Tour aside). Or to be the final decision maker with regards to game planning, in-game adjustments, in-game substitutions, etc.

He may be great at all of those, but he has never done it before. And I think you'd agree that it is a HUGE leap from assistant to head coach.

That's what "not having enough experience" means to me.

I'm asking who is saying this? Anyone of notoriety, or just a bunch of message board posters? Because if it's the latter, I'll safely resume not giving a ****.

The reasons Otz took the Washington job have been posted. He took the job to broaden his experiences to further prepare himself to become a HC in the future. Assistant coaches do that all the time. Take Chris Ash as an example. Chris Ash left his position at Iowa State to take the same position at San Diego State......then he came back to Iowa State.......and took a similar position at Wisconsin later. Today Chris Ash is the DC/S coach at Ohio State. And is likely positioning himself to be a HC someday.

A bunch of idiots on this message board......similar to you.

How does this have any relevance to whether TJ would stay at ISU longer than Hornacek?
