Things to do while in San Antonio

So if you're staying in the riverwalk area and want to go to the Pearl district area, are there trolleys or anything that will get you there, or do you pretty much have to drive yourself? I'm not really interested in taxi or uber.
It's walkable...If you follow the RW north it will take you almost all the way to the Pearl.

My two sons and I are leaving the 26th and going to the Mavs/Pelicans. Wouldn’t get to SA in time to see Monte, so opted to do the game in Dallas.

There were a few comments on the drive earlier. Questions?

1) map app routes 35 to KC then 49 down through Joplin, then on to Dallas from north. Is that better than 35 the whole way into Dallas?

2). Austin. Just stay on 35, or is a route around Austin quicker?

I'd stay on I-35 to Dallas. Should be slightly quicker.

You can bypass the mess that is I-35 in Austin by exiting on the TX-130 toll road before you get to Georgetown. You could take it all the way to I-10 and head west to San Antonio.

Did the Joplin route to the Texas game. Might be shorter but a ton of towns to drive through. If you have to eat or pee every half hour it might be the way you want to go.

Has anybody ever gone to the Sea World? How much time would you allow to experience that place. Would it be worth it on Friday morning?
Watch Blackfish before contemplating this move. I wouldn't give that place a nickel.

I've been to the one in Orlando, before I knew what was going on. Depressing as hell.

We are with the Alumni group so we are near the Alamodome and the gob of motels. The Market Square sounds nice, but looks like quite a walk. I might try the Whataburger just to say I did. Wife wants to go to the Rain Forest Cafe, which I am sure has really bad food, well, you know. Probably try to find a few non-franchise places somewhere along the way. The Marriott serves a breakfast, but at $22 a person we will probably walk somewhere for that.
What A Burger is no B-Bops. Just be ready.

Depending on which part of the RW you are on, you can find just about anything that you want down there. It's funny, when I first went down there, I thought the RW was great, but then rarely ever went when I lived there. I know my family avoids it like the plague....nothing wrong with it, just touristy. Anyway, if you're up at the north end of the RW near the Pearl Brewery, that's a cool area to check out. La Gloria is a Mexican place (not my favorite, but ok) near there along with several other bars and restaurants in the Pearl Plaza. On the other end of the RW near a lot of the hotels you'll find a lot of the typical chains, from higher end ones like Landry's Seafood to Whataburger...you can get just about anything you want. There are some non-chain places sprinkled in and some ok tex-mex, but I'm not as familiar with the hidden food options down there. If you're not opposed to walking a bit off the RW, go down to Market Square. Mi Tierra Cafe y Panderia is a great little bakery with authentic mexican sweet deserts and a full menu...I think it's open 24/7 also.

Gotta say this was alot more helpful than the "Do It Like a Local" recommendations on the Alamo Bowl website, which suggested such quaint, local establishments as: Dave and Busters, ****'s Last Resort, Hard Rock Cafe, Margaritaville, Rainforest Cafe and Whataburger

Market square is not a bad walk. We stayed at homewood suites and it was an easy jaunt from that.

Joplin is faster if you're driving through OK at night. There are tons of stop lights in those little towns, and during the day it can add an hour + to your trip.

During the day, I'd stick with I-35. I've made the drive a few times, but the last time going to DFW was the first time I'd hit that part of OK in the daylight. I think we hit every red light possible. Took 35 home and it was faster.

Sorry, there are no B-Bops around here either. Basically, if I want to have a burger and fries some afternoon, is Whataburger any good, or is it a McDonalds with higher prices? Probably will be looking for a few local spots to check out, but I also plan of taking in as much of the Riverwalk as I can, and after a while food is just food after you get above a low budget level. Would like to find an affordable Tex-Mex non-franchise place on the east side of the Riverwalk. (near the Marriott, close to the Alamobowl.)

BTW, I was surprised that the university bowl package does not offer ground transportation from the Marriott to the dome. I will not have any trouble walking it, but it looks like 3/4 of a mile to me. A lot of older fans, or those with mobility issues are going to have to figure something out.

Good chance the hotel has shuttles. Which group is staying at the Marriott Plaza?

FYI Walmart.com right now has 10% off digital Uber cards. Email delivery and you can pre-load on your account.

It's called riverwalk because of a river. Take this along and you and good to go south, a little work going north though.
