Kansas regents chairman pleased with progress to save Big 12, hopeful saga will end soon - The Washington Post

The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday reaffirmed support for Kansas and Kansas State to remain members of the Big 12 Conference.

Regent Chairman Ed McKechnie said after the nine-member board met in executive session that he was pleased with the work by the two universities’ leaders to stay engaged in saving the conference. He was pleased with progress that was being made to stabilize the conference, including offers to restructure revenues.

“We want the Big 12 to survive,” McKechnie said. “Our priority is to have Kansas and Kansas State be together in the Big 12. It appears that we are making great progress toward that.”

McKechnie said he thought the situation would be resolved in “seven to 10 days, but that’s conjecture.”

"It's about quality, not quantity," Dodds said. "In my mind, 10 is the perfect conference. You have a clear path to the national championship game without stumbling in a (conference) championship game."

PSA to Dodds:

Nobody outside of UofTexas gives a **** what your opinion is. Shut your ******* pie hole and become a conference MEMBER.

A few more interesting tidbits... (So you're telling me there's a chance with Notre Dame...couldn't help but think of Dumb & Dumber)

Dodds: Big 12 can be fixed, Aggie rivalry in jeopardy, Longhorn Network is off-limits

"I do think Texas had come to the conclusion they didn't want to come to the Pac-12," said a source very familiar with these realignment discussions. "The Pac-12 was not going to sit there and be a pawn in this back-and-forth."

Texas appeared very interested in the Pac-12, as recently as last weekend.

Following a three-hour meeting between Scott and Powers on Friday in Los Angeles, there was no communication between the two afterward, despite promises to stay in touch.

Sunday came and went, with no phone calls. Monday came and went, with no phone calls. On Tuesday night, Scott — growing weary of the process — tried to contact Powers and Oklahoma president David Boren, then notified his league presidents that he was withdrawing the Pac-12's interest in Texas, Texas Tech, OU and Oklahoma State.

Brigham Young, currently an independent, remains a school of prime interest for the Big 12, but Dodds said there is a group of schools on the list. Dodds declined to discuss BYU's level of interest or name the schools that the Big 12 will consider, but he did not rule out adding Notre Dame.

"I think there's always a chance," he said.

Dodds said he doesn't expect Texas A&M to stay in the Big 12, and that it was unlikely that Texas would continue to play the Aggies in football. Dodds said that would be "problematic" because both teams would have scheduling commitments to work around.

Here's the KC star report of Beebe's resignation that is the original source for the other article...I thought a few lines were interesting too

Dan Beebe working on agreement to depart as Big 12 chief - KansasCity.com

The source said that MU chancellor Brady Deaton, who is chairman of the Big 12’s Board of Directors, was resisting Beebe’s decision to step down and that Beebe decided this move would be in the best interest of the Big 12. It is not known who will become interim commissioner.

But although the Big 12 survived this scare, the conference may not stand on firm ground yet.
Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel continued to voice concerns about the conference. In an interview on St. Louis radio station KFNS on Wednesday, Pinkel said the league needed serious repair work.

He didn’t specify, but in earlier interviews he’s been critical of the Longhorn Network, Texas’ venture with ESPN that has upset other Big 12 schools because it contains high school football content, which is perceived as a recruiting advantage, and will broadcast a conference game against Kansas later this season.

“We have problems in our league and we all know what most of them are,” Pinkel said. “But we don’t solve them.”

“If everything gets fixed, I would love for A&M to stay,” he said. “But we need to be the Big 12 in more than name only. Our name ought to reflect who we are.”

I guess we'll find out soon enough if things really have changed or if this will be the old Texas 12

Isn't Pinkey a coach? Shouldn't he shut up and let the adults do their thing?

So we have mixed news. Beebe is stepping down - GOOD. UT refusing to acknowledge what everyone else in the country has figured out - LHN - is a detrimental, destabilizing influence to any conference that is supposed to be made up of equals.

No doubt UT told lap dog Beebe to step down so it would look like OU got most of what they wanted. I think the UT showdown has yet to be finished.

The ACC didn't want UT/LHN and the PAC didn't want UT/LHN.
The SEC didn't want UT/LHN and the B1G wanted no part of UT period.
You know what, the B12 doesn't UT either!!! UT, take your LHN and choke on it.

Kick the mofos out and invite BYU and the BE stragglers and lets get this over with.

Incredibly stupid.

Yes, I'm about sick of his complaining. I kinda like CPR's position: I'll let everyone else talk about that, I'm thinking about winning games, I'll talk when it's concrete, not speculation.

Not that the Big 12 is without problems, but he's out everywhere talking to everyone about it. Airing dirty laundry is classless. (but I guess he is Missoura's coach)

Yeah UT can suck it along with those jerk offs from college station you know uhhhh the mason jar guys.

The real question to ask is whether Boomer ever shows his face on this message board again? That guy went off the realignment deep end. I think he was believing OU could move the sun and stars by asking. It is a shame since he provided some very good posts to the site before the craziness began.
His twitters have slowed down. He may need a rest.

Well... at the very least I applaud Rutgers and UCONN for their honesty. They took the route of integrity unlike A&M who did pledge to remain in the Big XII while they had been talking to the SEC before and continued to talk to the SEC after making that pledge. Had A&M taken the honest approach people wouldn't be nearly as upset with them as they are.
So now the BE has their Forgotten Five?
