*****The Super, Mega, Huge Big 12 Expansion Thread*****

Wow, thanks for the link. The NY Times did some amazing work there; or at least digging up work that others had done and summarizing it for human consumption. As I was reading through it I was constantly amazed at how much it actually lined up with the reality we are seeing. And the reality as I thought I understood it (guess I do understand it pretty well ... pats self on back). A few exceptions: Boise had a larger fan base that I was expecting; I think it surprised them too. Idaho is now a football hotbed and all eyes are glued on the Broncos. UNLV really suprised me for being in such a large city they have very few fans. Guess there are so many other things to do in Vegas nobody cares about football. In the south a couple of Florida teams surprised: USF and UCF. USF is in Tampa and UCF is in Orlando and people in Florida follow football pretty closely so there are relatively a lot of fans for schools that don't have much prestige or reputation.

But other than that it was spot on. Incredibly so. They even explain why the B1G isn't looking to expand ... they don't have too and the numbers back it up.

I would recommend that everyone look at that data because that is what is being used to slice up the pie.

Oh, there was one other surprise: Houston. We all knew Houston was not a great fit and they have a really small fan base for being in such a big city. Not sure why.

Its because it was done by Nate Silver. Huge stat guy and excellent at what he does. Started out in baseball(PECOTA if you've heard of it) before moving onto politics before the 2008 election. As you can see he sometimes deviates outside politics and when he does it's typically excellent work.

I know this was alluded to just a few posts ago via a different link, but 2 pieces of news from ESPN

Big East, Big 12 talking possible merger, report says - ESPN

1. You think 16 teams makes a superconference? How about a super-duper conference? The Mountain West and Conference USA are talking about creating the Big 22. I'm assuming they're thinking this conference would fill a BCS void if the Big East and Big 12 leftovers merge to create the Big Tweast. Plus, if you expand to 22, you still have 20 schools left in case the Big Tweast takes 2 schools.

2. There is another claim made in the article that if Notre Dame is forced to join a conference, then they'll pursue the ACC before the Big 10.

Football Rumor Mill
Rumors flying that #BYU, #Cincinnati, #Louisville, #TCU and #WVU could all end up the new Big 12.

TCU could replace OSU, BYU could replace A&M, WVU could replace Tech, but no one fills the void of OU and UT...

It's hard to tell what the tweet is actually saying but I thought it meant we'd add those 5 schools with everyone else staying, bringing us up to 14. I think that is really the only way WVU comes here.

His politics stuff is also excellent. Sometime he gets too technical and you get lost in the explanation. He is the best for these types of things.

I think this statement is assuming that OU and TX stay to build the conference back up with = revenue sharing.

If the BCS conferences we end up with are

Big 10
SEC
ACC
PAC16
Big Tweast
Big 22

Then the only conferences left are the MAC, Sun Belt, and WAC. I think there'd be 30 schools left between those conferences after UMASS joins the MAC, and the WAC adds their FB schools of UTSA and Texas State. I suppose they could all merge as the leftovers conference and call themselves the Little 30.

Division 1:
Iowa State
Mizzou
Kansas
Kansas St.
Louisville
Cincy
West Virginia

Division 2:
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St.
Baylor
BYU
TCU

If we had = revenue sharing and we add those schools, that would be a pretty badazz conference and something I could get behind.

I like the possibility of WVU joining the good guys instead of heading to the SEC, same for Mizzou.

I do however have some hesitation concerning the academic merits of some of the other potential additions to the conference.

Lastly, TCU is going to turn into a beast once you start feeding it BCS moneys.

Just do it already, equal revenue sharing and bring is some more teams. ****in A that sounds easy to me, but why so hard for those d-bags in the south just boggles my mind. Goodnight wake me up when this **** is over with.

After all, we are currently the best conference in football right now.

I assume Notre Dame would want to park their Basketball and Olympic Sports in this 14 team Big Tweast (minus South Florida)??? Right?

If so, I guess you could have your pick of Georgetown or 'Nova for a 16th BB team.
