So as you all know on Friday Hilton Madness was on Friday and I wanted to post some of my observations after seeing these guys in person and see if y'all agree with me.

First: Lindell Wigginton is going to be a stud, for a Freshman he's well built and is a freak athlete. His 3pt shot is alright but not something we should expect him to shoot at a high clip, in this regard he reminds me of monte a lot where he'll make enough to keep you honest but he's much better at driving it on you. (Pretty much everything I expected) What was a pleasant surprise is his personality which came out a little on the court and when JW was interviewing him, he has this fun air of cockyness about him that reminds me a lot of when Niang was a freshmen(and pretty much his entire college career).

Second: Terrence Lewis has a very pretty long ball and good size. Right now he's pretty thin and will need to add more muscle before we should expect him to be a consistent high level contributor but he's the obvious backup SG right now and second best 3pt shooter behind Donnie Jack. He reminds me a lot of Peter Jok (I know, I know it pains me to reference a hawk but bare with me) not only in looks but in size and style coming out of high school, yes i watched both in person. I would not surprise me if TL gets close to Naz/Matt's 3pt record by the time its all said and done as he will be the designated 3pt sniper for the team for the foreseeable future.

Next: Cam Lard looked good, I can't really say anything to his defense since they do that sort of thing during HM but he ran the floor well (when he actually ran) and plays above the rim, reminds me a lot like Mckay but thicker. I would actually go as far as saying he projects to be comparable to a Thomas Robinson from KU type of player. I'm sure there are better comparisons but that was what immediately came to mind.

Solo: hasn't really changed from what I saw last year

Jakolby Long: he didn't play in the scrimmage but his 3pt shot still looks super weird and slow and unless he's really good at getting to the rim I don't see him playing much again this year. He just seems like he would be a liability on offense and it makes me sad to say it as I had high hopes for him out of high school but I wouldn't be surprised if he transfers after this season.

Zoran Talley: Was a nice surprise I think he probably starts right away this season with Hans still an unknown, I could also see him being 6th man if lard starts depending on matchups). He reminds me of Will Clyburn, good size, long with a decent shot.

Hans/ Beverly: Hans didn't play and his shoot around didn't really tell me anything either. I don't think we'll know what he really is until Feb. Beverly is short, he has the size of a pudgy SG but his shot is nothing special. I expect him to be 7th or 8th off the bench

DJ and Babb: nothing new from what we've already seen from them

Marial Shayok: this guy is a dude, think deandre kane lite he should really push LW this year in practice like Kane did for Morris.

Token Iowa white guy: he can dunk and plays hard. Thats all i have to say about that...

Let me know what you guys think.

Sounds about right to me. I've thought all along that Beverly won't see much action. I hope I'm wrong on him, but it sounds like you agree.

This year is going to be a struggle to make the NCAA I think. Next year we'll be back to going to the NCAA every year again for a while IMO.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Think Jackson is more likely to D-up on LW than Shayok. Doubt Shayok will play much point guard on D or O in practice.

Beverly would make it a 9 man rotation thats about the way it should be with one likely not playing every game off the bench, which who knows they might do with Brase to give him extra rest between games or something. I do love that we have some big bodies this year in case foul trouble happens (cough WVA).

Didn't go to HM but the way this roster is currently built and with the guys coming in next year (and potentially coming in as well) if they can keep it all intact I think if we can tread water this year and at least finish around .500 or compete for some kind of postseason bid that 18-19 season could be really special. Coach Prohm said it best last season when he said we had about a 2 year gap in our recruiting classes when he took this job and getting to the point where we aren't losing a bulk of the team on a given year like we just did that maintaining they type of success we've had recently will be a lot easier.

It won't be easy, but I have faith that Prohm will have them playing their best ball by February/March like he always does, and at least give them a fighting chance to make the tournament. If I have to make a prediction I see us as a bubble team or slightly above.

If we had Fran coaching us I'd be a little more concerned.

Wiggi
DJ
NWB
Zoran
Solo

Lewis
Lard
Brase (once 100% and back)

That’s thin.

Usually is thin unless you're a blueblood. Most of Fred's years he didn't seem to go deep into the bench. Same with Prohm even. He even admits he wants 7 maybe 8 guys to be it once conference play starts.

7-8 rotation is totally fine. It's enough to keep guys fresh for the end of the game. Just have to figure out which groups gel best together for sub patterns barring foul trouble. If the 9th guy is a huge drop off, it's not worth playing them in regular situations.

What I want to see:

DJ
Lindell
Talley
Lard
Young

What I think it'll be:
DJ
Lindell
Babb
Talley
Young
I like your first lineup also..If Long isn't ready to play some minutes this season I can see a 3 guard rotation with DJ, Wigg, and NWB. One of them off the bench.

That is what I was thinking. I see several line-ups have all three starting, which I could also see but would impact substitution patters as you then have your three best options at PG starting the game.

sounds like Prohm hasn't been playing Babb, Wigginton and Jackson together much so I assume he would like one of them off the bench. I am assuming Babb. Hopefully Brase can be fully cleared soon.
